Last night, the Madison County Democratic Party had their County Convention and after party at Big Daddy's in Edwardsville.

We selected a new leadership slate:
Andy Asadorian gets a full term as County Party Chair.
Dean Webb stays as 1st Vice Chair.
Yolanda Crochrell is your new 2nd Vice Chair.
Shawndell Williams is your new Recording Secretary.
Jean Garcia is your Correspondence Secretary.
Scott Rose stays as Treasurer.

Mark Lorch and Denny R Weber are your Sergeants At Arms.

Chris Layloff stays as lead Party Counsel.

Before both parties split into their separate meetings, Michalene Millas led a deputy registrar training.

We far outnumbered the Republicans at the convention in attendance.

Let's get a Blue Wave going this fall!! ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒŠ

"We grew up practicing active shooter drills before we learned algebra.
School shootings have increased dramatically in the last decade, with more school shooting incidents in recent years than any previous generation experienced in K-12. The average member of Congress did not grow up in an era where school shooting drills were routine. Columbine happened in 1999 โ€” many current lawmakers were already adults.

We scroll past climate disasters like theyโ€™re weather updates.
The U.S. now experiences an average of 20+ billion-dollar climate disasters per year โ€” compared to fewer than 5 annually in the 1980s. Gen Z will live through significantly more extreme heat waves and climate disasters than previous generations, even under moderate warming scenarios.

We work full-time and still canโ€™t afford rent โ€” let alone a home.
In 1980, the median home cost about 2โ€“3x the median household income. Today, itโ€™s closer to 5โ€“6x in many markets. Homeownership rates for young adults today are significantly lower than they were for Baby Boomers and Gen X at the same age. A full-time minimum wage worker cannot afford a two-bedroom rental anywhere in the United States at fair market rent.

Weโ€™re drowning in student debt for degrees we were told we had to get.
Outstanding student loan debt now exceeds $1.7 trillion. The average borrower leaves school with tens of thousands in debt โ€” far more (adjusted for inflation) than previous generations. In the 1970s, tuition at public universities was a fraction of todayโ€™s cost relative to income. AND even when young people graduate college they now face over 40% unemployment for recent graduates.

Our mental health is in crisis.
Rates of anxiety and depression among young adults have surged over the last decade. Su***de is now one of the leading causes of death for young people. Young people report significantly higher rates of loneliness and hopelessness than previous generations at the same age.

Weโ€™re navigating an internet that shapes our lives faster than it can be regulated.
Nearly half of teens report being online โ€œalmost constantly.โ€ Social media use is strongly correlated with increased mental health challenges among adolescents, especially young women. Lawmakers crafting tech policy largely did not grow up in the digital ecosystem theyโ€™re regulating.

Even when we do everything โ€œright,โ€ finding a good-paying job feels out of reach.
Young workersโ€™ wages have not kept pace with housing, healthcare, and education costs. Entry-level jobs increasingly require degrees and experience that previous generations werenโ€™t expected to have. Many Gen Z workers report feeling financially worse off than their parents were at the same age.

Weโ€™ve had enough. Itโ€™s time for leaders who are actually on our side.

Our candidates learned active shooter drills. They are paying off student loans. They know what itโ€™s like to apply for 100 jobs and not hear back from any.

These are the kinds of leaders we need in power. But we have to be honest: This system wasnโ€™t built for them. It was built for people with money and connections.

Thatโ€™s why itโ€™s so vital that we invest in these races and uplift these young leaders.
- Leaders We Deserve"

We must do whatever we can to elect Zac Sandefer & Rachel King, young leaders here in Madison County to the county board.

Transcription of Kevinโ€™s note:

I want to make one final ask for your vote. From the beginning, I have been the clear choice for the Democratic nomination.

I am a lifelong Democrat who has been fighting for equality and working people my whole life. I have eight years of experience as an elected official listening to voters and finding solutions to their problems. As Township Supervisor, I fought for families, the environment, and the homeless all while lowering taxes.

I am focused on bringing down prices from groceries to property taxes. I want to bring more state resources to the Metro East to address our water quality and infrastructure issues. Public education from PreK through college means the world to me.

When I announced my campaign, I said โ€œPeople are struggling right now, and I know this because Iโ€™ve taken the time to listen, to understand, and to work to meet their needs. We need collaborative, productive leaders in Springfield to fight for the working class.

We are facing so many of the same challenges, car payments, rising housing costs, student loans, constantly climbing electric bills, and wondering what groceries we can afford each week. I have supporters from every part of the Democratic Party who know I'm the real Democrat & Progressive in this race. I hope you will join me tomorrow to take this first step toward flipping our district to blue in 2026.

Thank you all for your support these past months,
Kevin
