Take a picture of it planted and share it on our page as part of our Earth Day Challenge for 2026!

All year we are encouraging everyone to Plant a Tree, Grow a Future!

Anyone (or groups) who plants a tree this year in Edwardsville and our surrounding communities, can upload a picture and share it with us on our Earth Day Challenge pages!

A big thank you to Joe Bauer with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for a great shED Talk tonight at the Watershed Nature Center! The rain and lightning kept us from heading outside to roll logs, but we still had a fun evening learning about the hidden world beneath logs and the creatures that live there.

Joe shared tips for responsible log rolling and how to explore nature without disrupting wildlife. He also highlighted helpful IDNR resources for identifying species and learning about appropriate ways to interact with items from nature: dnr.illinois.gov/education/atoz/wildlife-in-the-classroom.html

Thanks to everyone who came out despite the weather!

Join us for our next free shED Talk on June 15 at 6 PM where we’ll learn about beekeeping! shED Talks are held every 3rd Monday of the month at 6 PM at the Watershed Nature Center from March through November.

Getting down and dirty for science is always the right way to start the day!

Nature Preserve Foundation is happy to be partnering with the Edwardsville Garden Club as a soil site for the citizen scientist project, "Soil Your Un**es Challenge".

This morning NPF Board Members, Educators, and young citizen scientists buried a pair of cotton un**es into the ground of our watershed as a way to test our soil health and contribute to science.

In 60 days we will dig up the un**es and submit our data to the project. The more the un**es are deteriorated, the healthier our soil!

The Watershed Nature Preserve is one of several soil sites being led by the Garden Club for the challenge.

Stay tuned for July 10 to see the reveal!
