On November 6, 2025, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office assisted Victoria County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Crossroads Hidta Taskforce , along with Texas DPS conduct a traffic stop on Highway 59n at FM 234, El Toro, TX exit. During the course of the stop, Deputies developed probable cause to search the vehicle.

Upon inspection, Deputies discovered a concealed compartment, commonly referred to as a “trapped compartment.” Inside the compartment, Deputies located approximately 22 kilos of suspected co***ne. The substance was field-tested, yielding a presumptive positive result for co***ne.

Three males were taken into custody and booked into the Jackson County Detention Center. Additional charges may be pending as the investigation continues.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to working with surrounding agencies to prevent the distribution of illegal narcotics in our community and country, and to ensure the safety of all residents.

No further details will be released at this time, as this remains an active investigation.

For Immediate Release -Law Enforcement Response to Tip and Arrest

⭕️PERSON OF INTEREST IN BURGLARY INVESTIGATION

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest involved in a burglary investigation that occurred at James Food Mart, located at 11943 FM 1593, Lo**ta, Texas 77971.



Statement of Incident: Law Enforcement Response to Tip and Arrest

On November 5, 2025, at approximately 1:07pm, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Investigators received a credible tip regarding the vehicle of interest that was involved in the burglary at James Food Mart in Lo**ta, TX.

Acting on the tip, Investigators were able to locate the vehicle of interest. The owner of the vehicle was located and detained.

During the investigation a subsequent search of the vehicle, Investigators located Methamphetamines, small clear plastic baggies, digital scale.

The suspect, identified as Alex Vaquez of El Campo, TX was transported to Jackson County Detention Center and charged with Man/Del PG 1g

Follow up Statement:

Wanted subject has been identified as 42-year-old Jose Lazo of Ganado, TX. Lazo has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance - 4 grams less than 200 grams, and Escape.

Lazo has been transported to the Jackson County Detention center and turned over to jail personnel.

Last week, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Edna Police Department Officers participated in Active shooter response training exercise at Edna High School.

The training focused on coordination, hall clearing and room entries- ensuring our team is prepared to protect our community in any emergency. This training was led by a group of retired Navy Seals.

We thank Edna ISD for partnering with us to make this training possible and their ongoing commitment to student safety.

Today Sheriff Boone and Chief Deputy Bermea were honored to have had the opportunity to attend a Operation Lone Star Taskforce meeting and meet with Governor Greg Abbot of Texas.

We discussed key issues impacting our communities, shared ideas, and explored ways to collaborate on solutions that can continue to assist our local and federal partners in combating illegal activities throughout the State of Texas.

Sheriff Boone is grateful for the chance to be part of this meeting and to represent Jackson County. Sheriff Boone and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office look forward to continuing the work to protect and serve the citizens of Jackson County and the citizens of the State of Texas.

The public is hereby notified of an upcoming event taking place in the downtown area.

Event: 3rd Annual Edna Street Dance
Date: October 18, 2025

Please note from 2:00 pm- 6:00 pm, Main street starting from Wells street to Allen street will be closed. Ed Lynn street will be closed until 11:00 pm.

Portions of downtown may experience increased foot traffic, limited vehicle access, or temporary road closures during this time. We encourage residents and visitors to plan accordingly and consider alternate routes or modes of transportation.

Effective October 14, 2025, a county-wide burn ban is in place for Jackson County due to high fire risk and ongoing dry conditions.

✅ What this means:
NO outdoor burning of any kind( including brush, debris, or trash) NO campfires or fire pits NO use of fireworks NO agricultural or controlled burns

❌Violating the burn ban may result in fines or legal action.

This ban will remain in effect until further notice and is essential for protecting our community, property, and emergency services.
