This interactive performance for families of all ages includes traditional music, colorful regional costumes, storytelling, and cultural education that celebrates the richness and diversity of Mexico.

Ballet Folklórico Xochiquetzal is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Mexico's indigenous storytelling through traditional folklórico dance, music, and education. Through engaging performances, audiences experience the beauty and diversity of Mexico’s regional traditions while learning about their historical and Indigenous roots.

Debating the Constitution: Voting Rights

Explore the rapid constitutional changes that expanded voting rights during the 1960s. Through analysis of the 23rd, 24th, and 26th Amendments, we will investigate civic participation, generational shifts and the broader fight for political representation. Structured activities will help connect the era’s reforms to modern democratic engagement.

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealy Plaza is located within the former Texas School Book Depository building, and chronicles the assassination and legacy of President John F. Kennedy.

The contents of this program is intended for teens in 7th-12th grade and adults.

Five Minutes in Nature with Kevin Ebi

Kevin Ebi has written several of his own books blending his photography with his nature essays. These books include Five Minutes in Nature, his journey to find deeper connection to the natural world; Our Land, which documents lands protected by the U.S. National Park Service; For The Night, which illustrates the nightly roosting activities of 16,000 crows; and Living Wilderness, which is a collection of his art images from wilderness areas worldwide. He also wrote and illustrated Year of the Eagle, which tells the story of a year in the lives of bald eagles. He is an in-demand public speaker, talking to several thousand people about wildlife and environmental conservation.

Kevin’s publishing credits include National Geographic, BBC Earth, National Wildlife, Smithsonian, Outdoor Photographer, and Lonely Planet.

His image of a bald eagle that stole a rabbit from a young fox was highlighted on network television and featured in newspapers from Austria to Australia. That image was also honored by the Audubon Society as one of the best images in 2019 and named by CNN as one of the Pictures of the Year.

Collage: Music in Bloom - SilverKite Online Workshops

Create a collage inspired by music depicting florals and greenery. As we listen to a few short musical selections, we'll explore the inner landscape and sensations they elicit through blossoming melodies and whimsical musical features. Using paper, magazine clippings, and simple materials from home, you'll arrange and layer images to create a collage that reflects your response to the music.

Facilitated by SilverKite® Teaching Artist Sarah McKiddy

Supplies:

A few sheets of paper or cardstock for the final collage base
Old magazines, catalogs, scrap paper, wrapping paper, patterned paper, or origami paper
Scissors
Glue stick or liquid glue
Pen or pencil
Optional:

Colored pencils, markers, or crayons
Printed images of flowers, gardens, landscapes, or other nature scenes
Scraps of tissue paper, ribbon, or fabric for texture

Family trivia is designed with young people in mind – we suggest a youth participant on each team.
