BioBlitz is *this* weekend!

🐢 Shell-ebrate your appreciation for cold-blooded critters This Friday! Herpetology Experts Marie Stone from UCO and Anat Belasen from OU will be leading a walk to explore the herptiles around Arcadia Lake. If you’re into frogs, snakes, turtles, and other ectotherms, you will enjoy this activity!

🦉Are you a night owl? Friday evening is your time! The Sunset Nature Hike, led by Kelli Hansen of Martin Park Nature Center, will share her nature knowledge while providing an opportunity to visit some of the activities happening Friday evening.

🪲 Learn about cool nighttime bugs at the Moths/Nocturnal Insects activity with help from Rick Parker, who you may know from local Moth Night events, and C**t Nickel, local science teacher. Specialized equipment is set up to attract nocturnal insects for observation without harming them. We may be surprised by what shows up!

🦇 Bats! will be a great station to visit if you’re into learning more about these incredible creatures. Dive into the world of bat research, and listen to bat echolocations human ears can’t perceive, thanks to special equipment provided by researchers Alicia Roistacher and Caroline Cummings from OU.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the fun activities going on at the 2026 Arcadia Lake BioBlitz!

May 29 from 4-6pm Join the Blue Thumb team as we seine for fish and search for aquatic macroinvertebrates at Lake Arcadia! Blue Thumb will bring nets for exploring; please come prepared to get in the water! This group will meet near the west Spring Creek Trailhead in the Integris parking lot, and the creek is a short walk from there.

Oklahoma Blue Thumb, a program of the Oklahoma Conservation Commission, is a statewide citizen science program that trains volunteers to monitor creeks and streams and share their knowledge of water quality with others. The goal of Blue Thumb is to empower people to protect water in their region from nonpoint source pollution.
