Tonight, we paused to honor the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

The recognition included the Patriot Guard Riders leading a group of marines running the game ball from Tyler Tidwell's house to the stadium, the Oklahoma Sooner Color Guard presentation of the flags, a helicopter flyover, a moment of silence for the victims of 9/11 and the National Anthem performed by the Antler Pride Marching Band. Our players also wore special jerseys in tribute to the heroes who served, sacrificed and responded.

We will never forget.

Please make plans to attend our documentary showing of Screenagers: Generation AI on October 6th at 6:30 p.m. The documentary will be followed by an expert panel that will discuss AI use by our students, both in and outside of the classroom.

Screenagers: Generation AI examines how artificial intelligence has rapidly entered the lives of young people and what it means for their relationships, learning, and wellbeing.

Just a few years ago, AI in kids' lives barely existed. Today, many are turning to chatbots for advice, friendship, and emotional support. Others use AI to write essays, solve homework, and shape their social lives. And kids are being targeted, from deepfake harassment to AI-generated content designed to encourage harm.

Weaving together candid stories, cutting-edge science, and honest insights from adults and youth, the film confronts AI's risks while offering a path forward for young people's social, academic, and emotional well-being.

DCHS Seniors Olivia Do and Bryson Roberts were named as National Merit Semifinalists for their outstanding academic accomplishments! They are being honored with approximately 16,000 students from across the nation who qualified for this honor.

The National Merit Scholarship was established in 1955 and is a long-standing academic competition. Over 1.2 million juniors entered the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of US high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

Thirty years in education. And still, no two days are quite the same. 💙

For our next feature, meet Mrs. Cheryl Holman, Media Specialist at Grove Valley Elementary. She is one of the people in our district helping students discover a love of reading, learning and a good book.

“The best part of my job is that I never know what’s going to happen. One moment I’m reading a story to kindergarten, the next I’m helping a fourth grader with research, and somewhere in there I’m working with little readers or helping a student find that perfect book they’ll take home, love and not want to put down.”

After 20 years as an Antler, it’s the connection with students that continues to make the work meaningful.

“I teach students about the library, research and how to find information. I also use books to teach social-emotional lessons about how to be good humans.They are our future. I want them to be good researchers, to love reading and to be prepared for what comes next. I hope I can be that person for them, or even a small part of that.”

And that same investment in students is what she believes makes Deer Creek special.

“Everyone in our schools has a genuine love for our students. They make sure they are prepared and ready for that next step in every part of their education.”
