The County Judge's Office of Emergency Management is committed to maintaining the safety and welfare of the County’s residents through preparation, planning, mitigation, and response. Types of emergencies that we respond to are fires, hurricanes and other natural disasters or severe weather incidents, acts of terrorism, pandemic flu and other public health threats and whatever incidents that may arise calling for our expertise in the area of managing public response to an emergency. Our team coordinates with area Emergency Managers, law enforcement, fire departments, public and private emergency response entities, hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, local, state and federal governments, councils of government and numerous non-profits.

🔥 Mutual Aid Response – Lucero Fire

On Thursday, Hidalgo County Emergency Management staff and the Hidalgo County Fire Marshal’s Office responded to Encino, TX, in Brooks County, off County Road 306, to assist local fire departments with mutual aid during the Lucero Fire due to the size and conditions of the fire.

Hidalgo County Emergency Management staff came together with members of the City of Edinburg-Government and our community for the 911-meter Honor Walk and stair climb in recognition of the 25th anniversary of September 11.

Together, we walked around City Hall and stair climb, alongside community members as we remembered the lives lost, the fallen heroes, and the sacrifices of first responders who answered the call.. We are grateful to have been part of this meaningful tribute and to honor those who gave everything in service to others.🇺🇸

We honor the 2,977 lives lost, the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice, and all the first responders who answered the call that day.

Hidalgo County Emergency Management took part in the Finish Their Climb Challenge, honoring the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

We were challenged by Mrs. Edna Snider, wife of the late Fire Chief Shawn Snider, to take part in this tribute. Now, we challenge the Hidalgo County Fire Marshal’s Office, Cameron County Emergency Management & Fire Marshal Service, and Palmview Professional Firefighters Association to join us.

Human cases are rare, but they can occur when flies have access to open wounds.

Your risk may increase if you:
• Spend extended time outdoors where flies are present
• Live in or travel to areas where New World screwworm is found
• Have an open wound that cannot be properly protected

Keeping wounds clean and covered remains one of the best ways to reduce risk.

🔥 A Major to Extreme Heat Risk will continue through the rest of the week and into the weekend.

Stay safe:
💧 Drink plenty of water
🌡️ Limit time outdoors during peak heat
👕 Take frequent breaks in the shade or A/C
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle
⚠️ Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke
