Cyndy Walsh - School Board - Dist. 3

Cyndy Walsh - School Board - Dist. 3 My name is Cyndy Walsh and I served as the School Board member in Shenandoah County, District 3 from 2016-2023

12/16/2023

Thank you to everyone who reached out over the past weeks to wish me well as my term on the school board winds down. As Andrew said, it wasn’t always ‘real fun’ but it was definitely worth it and I am honored to have served. Your emails, texts and messages are so appreciated. Special thanks to Dan Walsh for organizing a gathering of teachers and friends after the last board meeting. And thank you to the special teachers who circulated cards at the central campus schools - seeing all those sweet notes really did my heart good! Thank you again. 💙💛

Way to go, Mr. Z! You are doing great things and are such an asset to our school division. You are so appreciated for all that you do that go above and beyond for your students.

Congratulations to CHS Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Nic Zimmerman! He has been selected by Virginia Tech to participate in the Fulbright-Hays Study Abroad Zambia project. Mr. Zimmerman will join eleven other career and technical education (CTE) teachers, administrators, and graduate students on a month-long (June 5th-July 4th, 2023) trip to Zambia to experience the teaching and learning of CTE in a culturally different setting.

The application process was open to all Virginia CTE teachers, administrators, and Virginia Tech CTE graduate students, so the competition was stiff. Most expenses for the trip are covered by a grant from Fulbright-Hays, a program of the U.S. Department of Education that supports group educational research and training efforts overseas.

We look forward to hearing about your experiences, Mr. Zimmerman!

Way to go, Mr. Z! Thanks for all you do for and with SCPS students!

Press Release - Central High School Teacher Receives FCCLA Master Adviser Award

Central High School (Woodstock, Virginia) Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Nicholas Zimmerman was selected by the Virginia Association of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) as a recipient of the 2022-23 Master Adviser Award.

The Master Adviser Award recognizes FCCLA advisers who have advised a chapter for at least three years, work to promote the FCCLA organization, operate a co-curricular chapter with a balanced program of work, facilitate youth-centered activities, and stay abreast of new happenings within the FCCLA organization.

“The Master Adviser award is symbolic to me and represents the role models, students, and CHS FCCLA members who have helped me grow our program,” comments Mr. Zimmerman. “Family is the most essential unit of today's society and could not be more needed in our school and community. Thank you to SCPS for seeing the value of Family and Consumer Sciences and FCCLA in all our division middle and high schools. Finally, to my late grandfather and former CTE Director of Page County Public Schools, I would not be receiving this without you!”

“Mr. Nic Zimmerman is a dedicated teacher who is much deserving of this recognition,” says Principal Lori Swortzel. “He pursues every avenue to create meaningful learning opportunities for his students. His impact goes far beyond the classroom to empower students to impact our community.”

Mr. Zimmerman will be recognized at the Awards Banquet during the FCCLA State Leadership and Recognition Conference on Saturday, April 15, 2023, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
