COMMUNITY, DON’T SLEEP ON THIS CASE—WHAT MAY BE BREWING BEHIND THE SCENES? 🚨
The case involving the death of 15-year-old Kevin Uriel Martinez Gonzalez returns to the 398th District Court on September 28, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., before Judge L. “Keno” Vasquez.

As we stand beside Kevin’s mother, Ms. Gonzalez, we ask our community to remain alert, informed, and present. A case may appear quiet between hearings, but silence does not necessarily mean that nothing is happening.

Behind the scenes, attorneys may be reviewing evidence, preparing motions, consulting experts, interviewing witnesses, coordinating the separate cases of co-defendants, discussing possible plea agreements, or determining whether the case is ready for a jury trial.

We do not know which of these possibilities, if any, is occurring in Kevin’s case. No plea agreement or trial decision should be assumed unless officially announced in court. Both defendants remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

While attorneys prepare behind closed doors, Kevin’s mother continues carrying her grief in public—waiting for answers, accountability, and justice.

Community attention matters. Follow verified court records. Attend public hearings when permitted. Ask respectful questions. Share accurate updates. Most importantly, continue speaking Kevin’s name so his life is never reduced to a case number.

Through the caring referral of a friend, we honor Anna Maria Hidalgo and embrace everyone mourning her loss within the circle of Rio Grande Valley Family & Friends of Murdered Children and Roger’s Center.

Anna’s life was tragically taken following a reported stabbing in McAllen. A relative has been charged with murder and additional offenses. These charges remain allegations, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Today, however, our focus is not the accused. Our focus is Anna.

Anna was more than a news report, a case number, or the circumstances surrounding her death. She was a woman whose life carried meaning, whose presence created lasting memories, and whose absence is now deeply felt by everyone who knew and loved her.

To Anna’s family and friends: no words can remove your pain, but you do not have to carry it alone. Anna’s name now lives within our Circle of Remembrance—a place where every life is honored, every story matters, and every surviving family deserves compassion, understanding, and support.

🎙️ 🕯️ FIFTEEN YEARS LATER—A PROMISE KEPT, A VOICE FOR EVERY FAMILY 🕯️
In a couple of day’s it will mark 15 years since my brother, Rogelio “Roger” Garcia, was murdered on September 13, 2011. I created this special episode of the LIFT Podcast—Living in the Face of Trauma to remember how we got here. Roger’s story laid the foundation for Rio Grande Valley Family & Friends of Murdered Children and Roger’s Center—a place that has become a beacon of hope for homicide survivors throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

This is not only my story. It belongs to every mother, father, sibling, child, grandparent, relative, and friend learning to live after someone they love was taken by violence.

It belongs to our current support-group members, the families we have served, and every survivor who has not yet walked through our doors. You are seen. Your loved one is remembered. Your voice matters.

Fifteen years ago, I made Roger a promise: “I will be the voice.” Today, that promise has become our collective mission: “We will be their voice.”

THREE LIVES TAKEN—THEIR NAMES MUST REMAIN AT THE CENTER 🚨

Sweeta Ram, 56; Kamlesh Rani, 46; and Minder Kaur, 73, were a father, mother, and grandmother whose lives were taken inside their Alton home in June.

They were not three names in a criminal case. They were members of a family and community. Sweeta was remembered as a well-liked Palmview business owner who helped people in need.

A Hidalgo County grand jury has indicted 19-year-old Gaurav Chopra in connection with their deaths. Chopra is accused of killing his parents and grandmother and allegedly shooting at his brother, who survived. He remains in custody without bond on the capital-murder charge. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

As this case moves through the judicial system, our community must remain informed, peaceful, respectful, and vigilant. Due process must be honored—but the victims’ humanity, their surviving family, and the devastating impact of three lives lost must never disappear behind legal language.

Tonight’s support group meeting was filled with testimony, honest conversation, tears, faith, and hope.

Through our Conocimiento activity, families shared their loved ones’ names, family roles, lasting gifts, and the colors, flowers, and symbols that keep their memories alive.

We discussed the realities families face after homicide: unequal sentences, unanswered questions, incomplete death notifications, unsolved cases, and navigating an unfamiliar justice system. Some did not know they could attend court, request updates, seek funeral assistance, or apply for Crime Victims’ Compensation.

One truth connected every testimony:

Although every case and grief journey is different, the pain that brings us together is the same—and every family deserves fairness, information, dignity, and justice.

We reflected on how traumatic loss affects survivors emotionally, physically, financially, and spiritually—and how faith and purpose help us face a “new normal.”

One mother remembered her son as the protector of his siblings—a kindhearted young man with an unforgettable smile who loved the Dallas Cowboys. A daughter remembered her 19-year-old mother and unborn brother, honored through red and white roses.

A proclamation cannot bring them back, but it tells every surviving family:

We see you. We remember your loved one. Their life mattered. Their story continues.

Thank you to every family who trusted us tonight. You are not alone.

💜 SANDRA BELTRAN—A BLESSING THAT TIME CANNOT TAKE AWAY 💜

On September 8, we paused to remember Sandra Beltran, nine years after her passing. Sandra was born December 20, 1967, and left this world September 8, 2017. Her photograph captures something meaningful: Sandra holding a stone bearing one simple word—“Blessed.”

That word now carries an even deeper message. A person may leave our sight, but the blessing of their love, presence, and influence remains. The people who knew Sandra continue carrying pieces of her through memories, family traditions, familiar expressions, and the lessons she left within their hearts.

Nine years cannot measure the depth of someone’s grief, and a calendar cannot determine when a family should stop mourning. Remembrance gives a family something precious: reassurance that their loved one still matters and that their name has not disappeared from the community.

🕊️ THREE YEARS WITHOUT ADRIENNE—HER LIGHT STILL REACHES US 🕊️
Today, September 9, we lovingly remember Adrienne Ann Garza on the third anniversary of her passing. Adrienne was born June 5, 1997, and passed away September 9, 2023. She was only 26 years old. Although three years have passed, time does not erase a person’s place in the hearts of those who love and miss them.

A photograph can preserve a beautiful smile, but the people who knew Adrienne carry so much more: the sound of her laughter, the kindness she shared, the moments that made her unforgettable, and the love that continues beyond her absence.

Today is not only about the day Adrienne left. It is about the life she lived, the relationships she formed, and the memories that remain alive within her family and friends. Her name deserves to be spoken, her story deserves to be remembered, and those grieving her deserve to feel the support of their community today.

On behalf of Rio Grande Valley Family & Friends of Murdered Children (RGV-FFOMC) and Roger’s Center, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to the of Pharr,City of Pharr, Mayor Dr. Ambrosio Hernandez, the City Commission, city leadership, and staff for proclaiming September 25 as the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims.

This proclamation is more than a piece of paper. To our surviving families, it sends a powerful message:
