Today our Summer Library Program took learning beyond the pages and onto the water!

A huge thank you to the Bayfront Maritime Center for welcoming us to their beautiful lakeside facilities. Our students had an incredible hands-on experience learning about the history of our local ships and Bayfront, practicing teamwork, tying strong knots, exploring the parts and roles of a sailboat, and even learning how to spot “puffs” on the water.

What made the day even more exciting was seeing the connection between these activities and the book our 7th and 8th graders are currently reading together. Concepts and details they've encountered in the story came to life right before their eyes, giving them a deeper understanding and a chance to truly visualize what they're reading.

Experiences like these remind us that books can open doors to adventures both on and off the page. Thank you again to the Bayfront Maritime Center for helping make reading come alive! ⚓💙

The General McLane School District Board of Education will meet for its Monthly Agenda Meeting on June 17, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in the Therese Walter Education Center McDonald Board Room.
Board directors will vote on various school-related topics that were discussed at last week's Study Session meeting.

📚☀️ Summer Library Program Kickoff! ☀️📚

Today we kicked off our Summer Library Program at JWPMS, and what a fantastic start it was! Students dove right into their books by reading Chapter 1 together before taking part in activities inspired by their stories.

Our 5th and 6th graders tested their teamwork and agility in a "Don't Touch the Lava" relay race, while our 7th and 8th graders partnered up to experience life as a skipper and crew on a sailboat. There was no shortage of laughter, problem-solving, and fun!

We were also excited to welcome special guest, Alyssa Johnson, from our local public library, who shared information about the wonderful reading challenges, programs, and prizes available to students this summer.

A huge thank you goes out to our General McLane Foundation for generously providing each student with their own copy of their summer reading book to keep, and to our PTSA for donating supplies that helped transform our space into a mystery-filled adventure.

The General McLane Board of Education will meet on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, for its Monthly Study Session Meeting. The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Therese Walter Education Center, McDonald Board Room, 11771 Edinboro Road, Edinboro, PA.
Policy & Co-Curricular Activities Committee, Finance & District Operations Committee, and Curriculum & Instruction Committee will meet at 5:45 in General McLane High School. At the Study Session Meeting, Board Members will hear about various school-related topics from GMSD Administration. The public is invited to attend, but there is no opportunity for public speaking at this meeting.
