Here is the latest update from DDOT regarding road & trail closures:

Commercial Street/Forward Avenue and Trail Short-term Closure Thursday in Pittsburgh



Pittsburgh, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing a short-term closure of Commercial Street/Forward Avenue and Nine Mile Run Trail in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Thursday, June 25 weather permitting.



Commercial Street/Forward Avenue will have a short-term traffic closure between Whipple Street and Summerset Drive from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM Thursday. During this time, Nine Mile Run Trail will be closed to all bicycle and pedestrian traffic between the Nine Mile Run parking lot in Swisshelm Park and the Frick Park Commercial Street Parking lot in Squirrel Hill. Traffic will be detoured.

Crews will perform a test run for the upcoming slide of the new I-376 Commercial Street Bridge prior to the official demolition and slide in July. For the safety of the public, the road and trail must be clear of vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic through the work zone as these operations occur. The restrictions may be lifted earlier if the work is completed sooner.



As a reminder, starting at approximately 7:00 AM on Monday, June 29, Commercial Street/Forward Avenue and Nine Mile Run Trail will close to traffic continuously around-the-clock through early August for the official demolition of the existing bridge followed by the slide and alignment of the new bridge.



The Commercial Street Bridge replacement project will utilize Accelerated Bridge Construction Techniques to laterally slide the new bridge onto the existing alignment of I-376 (Parkway East), which would be one of the largest lateral slide projects performed in Pennsylvania. The $95 million project located between the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange and Squirrel Hill Tunnel in Edgewood and Swissvale boroughs, and the City of Pittsburgh began in June of 2024 with the reconstruction of the westbound I-376 off-ramp to Forest Hills/Wilkinsburg (Exit 78B). Tentatively, from July 10 through August 3, 2026, drivers can expect a 25-day full closure and detour of I-376. The overall project is anticipated to conclude in the summer of 2027.



To help keep travelers informed as work progresses, PennDOT has created an email distribution list for Parkway East traffic advisories and construction updates. Enroll by clicking on the Parkway East online sign-up form link and entering your email address.

Greetings Amazing Edgewood,

Due to a water main break all traffic has been shut down in the 1000 to 1200 blocks of South Braddock Avenue. Additionally traffic has been closed on saunders from East end to South Braddock.

Greetings, Amazing Edgewood!

By now, many of you may have noticed notices placed on vehicles throughout the neighborhood. We are using these notices to inform residents about the new parking ordinance that will take effect on July 13, 2026.

Under the new ordinance, motorists will be required to:
• Park in the direction of travel on two-way streets, with the right-side tires within 12 inches of the curb.
• On one-way streets, park only on the authorized side
of the roadway and in the direction of traffic flow.

This ordinance is designed to improve safety for motorists, pedestrians, and our community as a whole.

Why is parking in the direction of traffic important?

Improved Visibility: When parked against the flow of traffic, drivers often have a limited view when pulling back into the roadway, increasing the risk of a collision.

Pedestrian Safety: Pedestrians generally expect vehicles to enter traffic in the established direction of travel. Vehicles facing the wrong direction can create unexpected hazards.

Reduced Headlight Glare: At night, vehicles parked facing oncoming traffic can create unnecessary glare for approaching drivers.

We understand that changes to long-standing habits can take some getting used to, but this ordinance is intended to make our streets safer for everyone.

Eastbound I-376 Parkway East Nightly Lane Closure This Week in Pittsburgh, Edgewood



Pittsburgh, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing a nightly lane closure on eastbound I-376 (Parkway East) in Edgewood Borough and the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Tuesday through Thursday nights, June 16-18 weather permitting.



A single right lane closure on eastbound I-376 will occur between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM each night. Crews will use the closed lane on the existing bridge to conduct concrete and barrier work on the new bridge.



Please use caution in the area. Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Greetings, Amazing Edgewood!

Overnight, several Hyundai and Kia vehicles were damaged, and one was stolen from our neighborhood and recovered in the city of Pittsburgh.

As many of you may remember, this was a nationwide issue during 2023 and 2024 with these particular manufactures.

While our officers will continue proactive patrols on all shifts, we wanted to provide some important information for Hyundai and Kia owners.

Why Hyundai and Kia Vehicles?

Hyundai and Kia models manufactured between 2011 and 2021 that use a traditional "turn-to-start" key ignition are more vulnerable to theft because they were not equipped with a standard engine immobilizer. This allows thieves to bypass the ignition using simple tools. Vehicles equipped with push-button start systems are generally not affected.

You may be at greater risk if:
• Your vehicle uses a traditional key inserted into the ignition.
• Your vehicle was manufactured between 2011 and 2021.

Hyundai and Kia offer software updates for many affected vehicles to address this issue. Once the update is completed, owners may also receive a window sticker indicating the vehicle has been upgraded which can help deter thieves.

While we agree the update can be effective, there are other methods that can enhance your vehicle's secutiry.

Additional Prevention Tips

• Use a visible steering wheel lock, such as "The Club." These devices are highly visible and often cause thieves to move on to easier targets.
• Consider installing an aftermarket alarm system with glass-break or motion sensors.
• Whenever possible, park in well-lit areas and remove valuables from plain view.
• Keep your vehicle locked even when parked at home.
