E814 and RE8 operated as the first and second arriving engine companies assisting the Abingdon Fire Company - MD on the scene of a house fire last night.
At 11:12 last night, Harford County Department of Emergency Services received a 911 call reporting a house on fire in the 3800 block of Hebron Terrace in . At 11:13, Volunteer Firefighters from Abingdon Fire Company - MD and surrounding companies were dispatched. The first unit to arrive was a HCDES EMS unit. They reported an active fire and also two people needing medical treatment. When firefighters arrived at 11:18, they quickly entered the home and began extinguishing the fire. It took 35 Firefighters about 10 minutes to bring the blaze under control. Two civilians were treated by EMS. One, a 59 year old woman, who was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for smoke inhalation. The second refused transport. The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal responded and determined the fire was accidental and caused by an electrical failure in the basement. Damages were estimated at $50,000. The family is displaced and being assisted by Harford County Disaster Assistance.

This was the second house fire in Abingdon on Saturday. Many of the units responded to both among the other calls caused by the high winds.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office credits the Volunteer Firefighters, “quick response in extinguishing and containing the fire to the basement only and preventing the fire from spreading throughout the home.”
