Lots of options for today’s post. I could lament the end of Summer and the retirement of my mankini until next June. Or, I could tout the arrival of Fall and the advent of sweata weatha. How about the excitement of a new school year and the kids returning to the classroom? While I’m at it, please don’t shoot the messenger, but let me remind you that the school zone cameras have been turned back on, so heads-up out there. However, I’m going to choose Labor Day as my primary topic. While City Hall will be closed on Monday, this holiday is more than just a nice excuse for a 3-day weekend. I think of it as an old-school holiday that celebrates the contributions of the American Labor Movement. Perhaps it’s just me, but I think of those iron workers perilously perched on top of a Manhattan skyscraper in the early 20th century. I also think of the social and economic achievements of Rosie the Riveter back during World War II. The specific image in one’s mind though is secondary to the acknowledgement that here in America we tend to work together for the betterment of our fellow countrymen, and we choose to celebrate this on the first Monday in September. Enjoy the day Edgewood.

Very soon, two seats will open up—and we want YOU to help fill them!

The board meets on the second Wednesday of each month, either in person at City Hall or online from the comfort of your home.

🚧 PLAYGROUND CLOSURES – SPINNERS ARE RETURNING! 🚧

We’re excited to share that the playground cone spinners are ready to be reinstalled! 🎉

To safely complete the installation, our crews will need access to the playground areas and equipment:

📍 Edgewood Community Park (ECP)
📅 Wednesday, September 2
⚠️ Playground closed all day

📍 Edgemont Park
📅 Thursday, September 3
⚠️ Playground closed all day

These temporary closures are necessary for the safety of the public while crews use machinery to reinstall the playground equipment.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to get these kiddo favorites back where they belong!

A big thank you to our crew for helping make this happen! 👷‍♂️🛠🌳

🔔🎒 THE SCHOOL BELL RINGS TOMORROW! 🚌📚

Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 2, students will head back to the classroom and familiar school-day routines will return to our community.

With more children walking, biking, crossing streets, and waiting for buses, drivers are reminded to use extra caution—especially during the morning and afternoon hours.

🚸 Slow down and watch for students in and around school zones
👀 Stay alert for pedestrians and crossing guards
📵 Put distractions aside and keep your focus on the road
🚌 Watch for school buses and obey flashing lights and stop signs

📸 A friendly reminder: School zone safety cameras will also be up and active. Please pay attention to posted speed limits and help keep our students safe.

🔔 As the school bell rings in a new year, let's all do our part to make sure every student gets to and from school safely.

We wish everyone a positive, safe, and successful school year! ❤️
