Two years ago, I was preparing to start what I hoped to be my last "Full-Time" Job. My goal was to finish my Doctorate, file for my second retirement, and spend time volunteering in my community in a number of meaningful and rewarding ways while taking time to enjoy family and traveling...
Well, the country has since taken a dramatic turn. I am no longer considering retiring because the reality is, my income may need to stretch so much further than just for my family...
1) It may be needed to pitch in to buy school supplies in support of our educators who find themselves using their own money to purchase much-needed supplies for their students
2) It may be needed to drop off breakfast to Exhausted educators who spent the evening planning out how to keep doing more with less and were too tired to get up early and make breakfast for themselves
3) It may be needed to supplement food programs in Harford County for any one of the 23,000 Families who are SNAP recipients and whose food stamp benefits ARE GOING TO BE underfunded.
4) It may be needed to help fund a program to support and celebrate our young people and provide them with meaningful opportunities in their community
5) And I may be needed to sit on a Board and remind all of us that finding a way to work together, for the betterment of ALL of our YOUTH, is the most basic obligation we have as a community
I am NOT rich; however, I am committed to using my Time, my Talents, and yes, whatever meager Treasures I can spare, to make things better in my community. That's what my family has been doing, and that's what we will keep doing.
