The Edgefield County Clerk of Court has a position open for Edgefield County Archivist.
The Edgefield County Archivist job typically involves acquiring, preserving, describing, and providing access to historical records prior to 1913, including both physical and electronic documents.
Key Responsibilities:
Collecting, accessioning, and maintaining historical records, including both traditional paper records and born-digital or digitized materials.
Arranging and describing archival collections to establish intellectual control, often using standardized practices and creating and finding aids and guides.
Assisting researchers with historical and genealogical questions, providing access to records, and promoting the archive's services to the community.
Managing digital records, performing scanning, and participating in the development and implementation of digital archiving processes and systems.
Performing basic conservation and preservation treatments on documents and other archival materials to ensure their long-term survival.
Assisting state and local government agencies with identifying, appraising, and scheduling records for archival transfer and retention.
Common Qualifications:
Principles and techniques of archival theory and practice, Edgefield County history and government, and current digital records issues.
Strong organizational skills, ability to perform detailed work with accuracy, effective written and oral communication, and proficiency with archival software and digital collection systems.
The Edgefield County Archivist position reports directly to the Edgefield County Clerk of Court. This position works a schedule of M, T, TH, F 8:30am – 5pm, and W 8:30am – 1:30pm, for a total of 35 hours per week.
Salary will be based on qualifications and experience.
