Our first Veterans Coffee Hour, coordinated by Post 30 member John Sherry, was a success by every measure. It was like a cocktail party, except with coffee. It was a Coffee Party! This may be the start of a new trend. We met some veterans for the first time, caught up with old friends, and made some business connections, all in an hour, to the backdrop of music, coffee, and home-baked cookies by Samanthamarie McClure, who co-hosted along with Adrienne Pixley, and Dave Coates. We were told you could hear the laughing from the street and ran over because people didn't want to leave! Let’s do it again on October 10, only bigger.

Thanks to the Tompkins Library/Edgefield Welcome Center for opening its doors to us, and to Mayor Ken Durham for stopping by. And a special thanks to Walmart Aiken - Whiskey Rd for its generous support of Veterans Coffee Hour.

Community Cadence keeps growing. We welcomed three first-time walkers this month. Labor Day commitments kept a few of our regulars away; they were definitely missed. Still, it was another great morning on the trail and we look forward to cooler weather at our October walk. We’ll be waiting for you at the Piedmont Tech parking lot.
