EVFD will be hosting Hazmat Awareness training on Saturday, Jan 31, 2026. This is a Pro Board certification course and is free to first responders.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of former and longtime SFFMA Chaplain, Ben Kennedy.

He faithfully served Texas firefighters for many years, offering comfort, guidance, and prayer when we needed it most. Please keep his family and our fire service family in your thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace, Brother.

Funeral services for Ben Kennedy will be as follows:

Those currently serving in the fire service are asked to attend in full dress uniform.

Help his family honor Ben's many years of service to the Texas Fire Service.

Our hearts are heavy upon learning of the passing of former SFFMA Chaplain Ben Kennedy earlier today. He faithfully served in that role for 24 years. We are grateful for his service to the members of this association. Rest in peace, sir.

New recruits without experience will join our hybrid trainee academy, while those with current certifications will begin immediately as probationary firefighters.
Compensated shifts are available to those possessing Tx Fire & EMS certs after probation completion.
