The East Eden Fire Company had an appreciation dinner to recognize their active firefighters and spouses. Town Supervisor Rich Ventry also installed the fire company’s Social and Firematic Officers for 2026-2027 term. Also in attendance were Life Members, Town of Eden officials, and representatives of other emergency service agencies in the town.
Brad Schrieber was recipient of the 2024 Firefighter of the Year Award. Harold Haier was recipient of 2025 Firefighter of the Year Award.
The Fire Company added a third Honorary member. The recipient of that was Mark Jarmusz of Eden Collision for his continuous support of the fire company and membership.

East Eden Fire Company had an air consumption drill tonight. Shown here is Lt James Carney and firefighter Ian Hunter.

An air consumption drill is a high-intensity training exercise where firefighters in full personal protective equipment and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus perform strenuous tasks to learn their personal air usage rate, improve stamina, and practice air management to prevent running out of air in emergency scenarios.

Notice of New York Statewide (March 16 - May 14, 2026): Prohibited Activities and Exceptions.

During this period, the burning of lawn debris, grass, tree limbs, and building materials is strictly forbidden.

However, exceptions are granted for recreational fires, provided they utilize only charcoal or dry, clean, untreated, and unpainted wood.

Permitted recreational fires include: campfires, small cooking fires, or any other outdoor fire less than 3 feet in height and 4 feet in length, width, or diameter; ceremonial or celebratory bonfires, including the disposal of flags or religious items, if not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.

Working smoke alarms save lives!!! Most fatal home fires occur in houses without them, often at night. Install detectors on every floor, inside each bedroom, and outside sleeping areas. Carbon Monoxide detectors should also be installed in every floor of the home. Test monthly, replace batteries annually (or upgrade to 10-year sealed units), and replace the entire unit every 10 years.

Did you know the East Eden Fire Company responds to EMS calls for cardiac arrest in our district? Although the Eden Emergency & Rescue Squad is the primary EMS agency in our district, our firefighters are CPR certified. Having our firefighters respond ensures we have plenty of personnel on scene for the very labor intensive task and ensures a quick response because the ambulance is responding from Eden’s fire district. We also have our own LUCAS device (pictured below) to ensure the best possible patient care.
