Please heed this warning this weekend as you work in the yard!

FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING FOR CENTRAL ALABAMA...including Elmore County.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Central Alabama, which is in effect from Saturday morning through Saturday evening.

* WINDS...Northeast 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 19 percent.

* IMPACTS...The combination of a dry air mass and windy
conditions will result in critical fire weather conditions.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible Red Flag Warnings.

This is what our first fire truck at Kowaliga looked like. Actually, this could have actually been it! We bought it for $500.00 from the City of Montgomery! It was a 1948 American LaFrance, convertible, 12 cylinder gasoline engine, and the transmission was not synchronized; had to jam it through the gears. It had a 250 gallon tank. We had no firehouse. We parked it up by the store and put a very old military tarp on it - 1975. Windermere did not have a department, nor Red Hill, so we covered all that territory as well. The big farm house on the right going down Prospect Road was saved by that truck in 1976, when the 80 year old lady’s electric blanket shorted out and ignited the bed and the heart pine walls. So that ole truck came in handy!

What an amazing facility, people and education! Kowaliga Volunteer Fire Department was honored to be a small part of these kids education and experience! If you don't know about Elmore County Technical Center please check it out....they are doing GREAT things in our community.

Recently, the Elmore County Commission partnered with the EC Board of Education and the Elmore County Technical Center to provide much needed resources to our students in Elmore County. This included a generous donation of an Ambulance by the Kowaliga Volunteer Fire Department.

After 37 years of selfless service, Chief Larry Warren is retiring as the Chief of Kowaliga VFD. Since 1987, Chief Warren has been a pillar of dedication, courage and leadership, always puttimg the safety and well-being of our community first.

Beyond his extraordinary service as Chief, he has generously donated land for Station 2 and for the communication tower near the station – contributions that will continue to benefit the department and the community for years to come. His knowledge, time and unwaverinf commitment have made an endelible mark on Kowaliga and Lake Martin.

Thank you, Chief Warren, for your remarkable service and enduring legacy. You have truly set the standard for dedication and leadership. Enjoy your much deserved retirement.

Thank you to all of the mutual aid who supported the Russell Lands fireworks on the Fourth of July at the amphitheater. Red Hill Fire Dept, Windermere Fire Department, and many other volunteers to have a safe display of fireworks!

Kowaliga Volunteer Fire Department had the privilege to support Children's Harbor campers, and their families, experience being a fireman for the day!! What a great opportunity for KVFD who loved seeing the smiling faces!

We were dispatched on June 3rd at approximately 2:28pm to a 4 vehicle accident adjacent to the Kowaliga Boat Ramp on Hwy 63. Upon arrival it was clear there were multiple injuries and more personnel was needed. Kowaliga firefighters started CPR on the most critical patient soon after arriving on scene. Eclectic Fire Department EMS and the Alexander City Fire Department provided amazing support to transport all 4 patients.

This was a large and complex scene, and we want to thank Red Hill Eclectic Fire DepartmentAlexander City Fire Department , Elmore County Sheriff's Office and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency for all of the help , and supporting our community.
