Echo voters approved the recall of Mayor Chad Ray in a special election held June 9, according to unofficial results released by the Umatilla County Elections Office.

According to results, 147 ballots were cast out of 417 registered voters, representing a voter turnout of 35.25 percent. Voters approved the recall by a margin of 92 votes to 55.

With the recall approved, the City of Echo is expected to enter a transition period, though city officials say day-to-day operations and services will continue without interruption.

City Administrator Mike Gonzalez said he has already spoken with Council President Berlyn Anderson, who will serve as acting mayor during the transition.

"I have talked with Council President Anderson about stepping into the mayor role and she told me she's ready to go. As far as continuity of service, things remain the same at City Hall. We'll keep working on behalf of the citizens of Echo as always with the same level of professionalism," Gonzalez said.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸผA HUGE THANK YOU TO TROOP 700!

The City of Echo would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Troop 700 for their outstanding work painting fire hydrants throughout our community. Thanks to their efforts, dozens of hydrants across the city have received a fresh new look and are helping make Echo look even better.

A special thank you goes to Marley Blanchet, whose Eagle Scout Project made this work possible. Marley, who graduates from Echo High this June, approached the City with the idea of painting all of Echoโ€™s fire hydrants as part of his journey to earn the prestigious Eagle Scout rank. His leadership, initiative, and commitment to community service are exactly what the Eagle Scout program is all about.

We are also proud to share that Marley will soon be heading to San Diego to begin basic training with the United States Marine Corps. On behalf of the City of Echo, we wish him the very best as he begins this new chapter of service to our nation.

Thank you, Marley. Thank you, Troop 700. And thank you to all the volunteers who donated their time and effort to improve our community.

Your hard work has not gone unnoticed, and Echo is better because of it.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Good luck, Marine-to-be! Semper Fi!

A huge thank you to Multnomah County for their generous donation of our new library book return depository outside of City Hall on Bridge Street!

This unit was 100% donated and is valued at several thousand dollars. Not only will it allow the City of Echo to receive more library materials and books, but it also gives the area a clean, modern upgraded look.

We also want to give a big shout out to our Public Works crew for traveling to the west side of the state to bring the depository back to Echo and helping get everything installed. Great teamwork all around!

We are currently in the process of changing out the locks and preparing the unit for service. We expect it to be operational later this month and will continue to keep the community updated.

Thank you again to Multnomah County for supporting small communities and helping us improve library services here in Echo!

Keeping Echo Safe, Friendly and Pet-Friendly
Echo is a community that loves its pets. Dogs are an important part of many families here, and most pet owners do a great job caring for and controlling their animals. Recently, however, the City became aware of an incident where a resident was bitten by a dog that had gotten outside of its fence. Thankfully, situations like this are rare, but it serves as an important reminder for all of us to be mindful and responsible pet owners.

โ€œThe City of Echoโ€™s dog ordinances are not meant to be punitive or heavy-handed. Their purpose is to help keep residents, visitors, pets, and neighborhoods safe while ensuring everyone can enjoy the community comfortably,โ€ says City Administrator Mike Gonzalez.

Today we want to give a huge thank you to City staff members Ameta Nelson and Ana Lemmon, along with several amazing volunteers and helpers, for all their hard work during our community planting event today.

The City of Echo is known for its beautiful flowers, trees, and welcoming downtown charm. That tradition was started years ago by retired City Administrator Diane Berry, who made beautification a priority throughout her tenure. We are proud to have continued that legacy throughout the years.

Echo takes great pride in our downtown, parks, and public spaces, and efforts like todayโ€™s planting event help keep our community looking vibrant and beautiful for residents and visitors alike.

A special thank you as well to the Garden Club, who will soon begin their annual planting efforts. Your dedication, passion, and care for our community truly make a difference.

Echo looks beautiful because of people who care. Thank you all for helping keep that tradition alive!
