The Ebensburg Borough Police would like to remind area residents of the re-emergence of seasonal scams.

Valentine’s Day brings more than cards and candy. It’s also a favorite time for cybercriminals to launch phishing scams.

Scammers use emotional or seasonal messages to trick users into clicking.

Common subject lines include “Secret Valentine Gift,” “Delivery Issue,” or “Someone Sent You an E-Card.” These messages often lead to fake websites, malware downloads, or credential theft.

Top Valentine’s Day scams to watch for:

Fake shipping emails from flower shops or online stores
Malicious e-cards claiming to be from anonymous senders
Romance scams targeting employees on social platforms
Gift card fraud emails that appear to come from company leaders
“Limited-time offers” that steal personal or business data
These tactics work because they look familiar and feel urgent. One wrong click can open the door to ransomware, data theft, or a network breach.

To stay cyber safe, do not open unsolicited emails or click on attachments from unknown senders.

2. If the sidewalk is part of your driveway, you cannot park on the sidewalk part of your driveway. A fine of $15.00 for blocking the sidewalk may be incurred.

3. When shoveling snow from your sidewalk or driveway, you cannot throw the snow onto the street. A fine of up to $600.00 may be incurred.

*You may also ask borough staff during office hours of 8 am to 4 pm, Monday - Friday.

Additionally, if there are neighbors on your street who are elderly, have a disability, or may have a hard time shoveling for any reason, please work with your neighbors to lend a hand and ensure your entire block is safe and accessible to all.
If you are looking to hire someone to help with shoveling, contact the borough office for a list of names at 814-472-8780.
