Drivers in Cambria County will see more law enforcement on the road from now through August 16th as part of the Speed Slows You Down, high-visibility enforcement campaign.

Officers with the DUI Task Force are committed
to keeping everyone safe and will be out this weekend, taking time away from their loved ones in an effort to keep Cambria County safe from impaired drivers.

Fourth of July Stats:

From 2020 to 2024, of the 2,719 total traffic fatalities during this holiday period, 1,724 were the driver.
In 2024 alone, there were 579 people killed in traffic crashes during the Fourth of July holiday period.
38% (654) of those drivers were drunk. Of the 1,724 drivers killed, the 21-34 age group had the highest percentage (47%) of drunk drivers.

One of the most dangerous places for a first responder is on the side of the road. When you see flashing lights, please protect those who protect you:
🔹 Move over a lane to give them space.
🔹 Slow down immediately if you can't safely change lanes.
It’s the law. Let’s make sure our police, fire, EMS, and roadside crews all make it home safe. 🛑

The Cambria County DUI Task Force is set to conduct multi-jurisdictional enforcement operations from June 25th to June 28th.

Officer's want remind everyone to be responsible by utilizing a designated driver, public transportation or ride sharing.

In 2010, Paul Miller was tragically killed when a distracted driver crossed a median and hit his car head-on. He was 21.

With the support of Paul’s mother, an advocate for distracted driving legislation, Governor Shapiro signed Senate Bill 37, also known as Paul Miller’s law, into law.

Effective this June, the new law makes it illegal to hold a mobile device while driving. This includes dialing and answering a mobile device—even at red lights.

Distractions aren’t worth your life or anyone else’s. Don’t drive distracted.

☘️ Operation Sober Shamrock ☘️

The Cambria County DUI Task Force will be participating in Operation Sober Shamrock in coordination with the Pennsylvania DUI Association, PennDot, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Law enforcement agencies across the state are teaming up for Operation Sober Shamrock, a statewide impaired driving enforcement initiative, in an effort to reduce the number of impaired driving crashes, injuries, and fatalities statewide. This special campaign will kick off March 5th-7th.

Law enforcement agencies will also conduct sustained enforcement activities across Pennsylvania throughout the entire St. Patrick's Day Impaired Driving Enforcement period of March 7th-17th.

The Cambria County DUI Task Force reminds the public to celebrate responsibly. If you plan on drinking, plan a sober ride home.
