Fire Administration Daily Hours - Monday Thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The traditions and pride run deep in the Eau Claire Fire Department and date back to times well before 1900. Before Eau Claire was the city it is now, it was actually three separate cities consisting of West, East and North Eau Claire--each with its own form of government. Tides of tradition were formed beginning with

the first steam engine that was purchased in 1871, and a deep sense of pride shows through even today when a new ambulance, engine, rescue, or specialty vehicle arrives at one of the six fire stations. Our department has grown from the date of its first full-time firefighter, W. Willard, joining ranks on January 30, 1871, to the current staff number of 94 career firefighters and staff. Elaborate radio systems with speakers have replaced the ticker-tape telegraph alarms and the red fire alarm pull boxes, and it’s a certainty that the number of calls has increased every year.

Another segment of firefighters training for more than just fires. This time, it’s shore-side dive training. With this training, our crews focused on the communication and teamwork between the diver and communicator. With limited visibility and underwater vegetation such as weeds and moss, the divers rely on the communicator on shore to maintain contact, relay information and help monitor the dive.

Training together in challenging conditions strengthens teamwork and helps ensure our divers are prepared to respond safely and effectivity when the situation arises.

Save the date! It’s POLICE vs FIRE!

This November, first responders from across the Chippewa Valley will face off in an inaugural charity hockey game to help raise money for Kids N' Cops and Coats for Kids.

Our firefighters had the opportunity to welcome kids for a tour at Station 2 and give them an up-close look at what it takes to be a firefighter. The crew also provided a demonstration of firefighter gear, allowing the kids to see and learn about the equipment firefighters use every day. Thank you for showing interest and visiting with us!
