On September 11, 2001, our country was attacked. Nearly 3,000 innocent people lost their lives on AMERICAN SOIL.
In the years that followed, more than 4.4 million American men and women have served our nation in uniform during the post-9/11 era, and hundreds of thousands have deployed in the fight against terrorism. They left their families, sacrificed, fought, came home changed—some never came home at all. Our office hears these stories of service EVERY DAY. It's the reason we are here: to serve Veterans who served.
In the 25 years since, hundreds of responders have died from 9/11-related illnesses, and tens of thousands of responders and survivors continue to live with illnesses linked to toxic exposure.
Never forget what happened on this day - OUR NATION WAS ATTACKED AND AMERICANS STEPPED UP TO DEFEND IT. Today, we remember those we lost on September 11, and we honor the men and women who served in the years that followed.
