Another sad case of UWEC brushing discrimination under the rug for the sake of money and marketability.
Albert Colom was hired to boost retention rates to a +90% level. The university frequently chases statistics of this sort in the interest of optics and advertising. More positive statistics equals more prospective students equals more tuition paid. Because of this, the university has chosen to ignore the work environment Colom created--one that is toxic and hostile to women.
Ten individuals have either quit their jobs or shifted positions on account of Colom's behavior. Despite this, administration has dismissed the case.
While the university claims to value equity, diversity, and inclusivity, administration continues to choose optics over substantive action. In more than one case, discrimination has gone unchecked. The voices of women and people of color have been silenced. The UWEC administration has repeatedly shown that it will only stick to its values when money is not on the line.
The case accusing former University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire Vice Chancellor Albert Colom of gender-based negative work environments has been dismissed.
