๐Ÿก Safer Homes. Healthier Futures in Preble County ๐Ÿก

The Preble County Land Bank is proud to share that, with support from the Lead Safe Ohio Program, weโ€™ve helped 16 Preble County families reduce exposure to lead hazards in their homes.

By addressing deteriorating lead-based paint and dust in older, owner-occupied homes, certified contractors were able to stabilize surfaces and remove immediate risks โ€” without requiring families to relocate or take on financial burdens.

โ€œThis program allowed us to help families who live in older homes make them safer,โ€ said Land Bank President Austin Cole. โ€œEvery home we touched represents a healthier environment for children and a stronger future for that household.โ€

Together, weโ€™re protecting our children and investing in healthier homes across Preble County, Ohio . ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿšง Demolition Day at the Former Hines Truck Stop! ๐Ÿšง
After years of vacancy and environmental assessment, demolition has finally begun at the site of the former Hines Truck Stop at the intersection of U.S. 127 and U.S. 40.

The Preble County Land Reutilization Corporation (Land Bank) received $800,000 in Ohio Brownfield Remediation Funding nearly a year ago through the Ohio Department of Developmentโ€™s Brownfield Remediation Program to clean up and revitalize this long-blighted property. This project cleans up any contamination and clears the way for future commercial redevelopment.
Records show the site once operated as a truck refueling station dating back to the late 1920s, ceasing operations in 1990. Now, after decades of disrepair, progress is underway to give this key intersection a fresh start.

๐Ÿ’ช Another big step forward for local redevelopment and economic growth right here in Preble County!

๐Ÿ“ฃ The Preble County Land Bank is seeking properties to be demolished!

The State of Ohio has released guidelines for the 2026 Demolition Grant. Applications for this grant open on October 29, 2025, and close on November 19, 2025. This timeline will not allow us to take our time and use our normal collection methods, so we are asking for your assistance.

We are looking for projects that will allow for the Preble County Land Bank to either take ownership or work with the current owner to demolish dilapidated and abandoned buildings around Preble County. There are a few ways this can be accomplished:

๐Ÿ  Property Donation:
The owner donates the property to the Preble County Land Bank. In this scenario, the owner will donate the property, have the ability to receive a tax write-off, and will no longer be burdened with a nuisance property.

๐Ÿ”จ Shared Project:
The owner works with the Preble County Land Bank to demolish the property and then retains ownership of the property. In this scenario, the owner would either pay for 25% of the project cost or perform in-kind labor/work totaling 25% of the project cost.

โš™๏ธ Other Options:
Some other possibilities for property acquisition and demolition do exist within the funding, but they would have to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

We appreciate all of the hard work you do to keep your communities safe and clean. Please let us know if we can work together to assist you in this goal.

๐Ÿš๏ธโžก๏ธ๐Ÿก Ever wonder if the Preble County Land Bank is tearing down homes that could be saved? The answer is no.

Every property is carefully evaluated first. If a house can be salvaged, itโ€™s considered for renovation and resale โ€” not demolition. Demolition is only used as a last resort when a structure is beyond saving.

Below are some real examples of interiors and exteriors from recent projects to show why these decisions are made.
