From the moment we walked into Elizabeth's home, it was apparent that she needed help. She had tubs and buckets around catching rain water from her very leaky roof. Thanks to grant funding through Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, we were able to provide her with a new roof and peace of mind.

Here's what she shared about her experience:

Home Is The Foundation is seeking compassionate, dependable individuals to join our Homeless Services team as Client Advocates at the Preble County Homeless Shelter.

We currently have openings for:
✅ Weekend 3rd Shift Staff
✅ PRN (as-needed) coverage on all shifts

This position is ideal for someone who:
• Has a heart for serving others
• Works well independently
• Remains calm in challenging situations
• Wants to help create a safe and supportive environment for individuals experiencing homelessness

🌻 Summer Meal Train Sign-Ups Are Now Open! 🌻

Our homeless shelter meal train is officially open for June, July, and August, and we are looking for community members who would like to help provide meals for our clients.

Providing a meal is a simple but meaningful way to support those staying at the shelter during a difficult season of life. However you choose to give — cooking, catering, or coordinating a delivery — your support helps make a difference.

When a single mother and her 4-year-old daughter arrived at the emergency shelter at Home Is The Foundation, they were searching for safety, stability, and hope for a better future. With the support of her case manager, she applied for benefits, enrolled her daughter in daycare, and began participating in the Ohio Works First program with Preble County Job & Family Services.

Step by step, she worked toward independence — eventually signing the lease for her very first apartment. Thanks to generous community donations, her new home was fully furnished and ready for a fresh start. Her daughter also received clothes, books, and toys from HTC Dayton, while Birthright of Eaton provided potty-training essentials. Preble County Transit has been a huge help getting them safely to work and daycare.

What began as a time of uncertainty became a story of resilience, support, and new beginnings. 🏠💙

Do you have lived experience with homelessness and are looking for ways to increase your ability to provide support, advocacy, and leadership in our community? Scholarships that cover registration, travel, and lodging for the 2026 NLELC are available!

Held in partnership with the National Coalition for the Homeless, this annual event brings together individuals with lived experience of homelessness, activists and leaders from across the country for three days of connection, learning and leadership development. Attendees will learn from fellow experts and transform lived experience into collective action to solve homelessness.
