The Eaton Police Department K9 Unit is asking for your generosity and continued support.

Last year’s fundraiser raised nearly $10,000, which allowed us to purchase K9 Kurt, secure certifications for both K9 Kurt and K9 Lyken, and obtain the essential equipment and resources needed to restart and rebuild our K9 program.

Since the program’s relaunch, both K9s have been actively deployed in a wide range of real-world operations, including narcotics interdiction, tracking wanted persons, locating critical evidence, and providing comfort and support during crisis situations.

Today, we are once again asking for your help. The K9 program is fully self-funded through donations and fundraising efforts. These funds directly support the ongoing care and readiness of our K9 partners. Following the significant initial investment to acquire and train both dogs, our fund has been depleted.

Your support ensures these K9s can continue serving our community safely and effectively.

What your donations will support:

- High-quality K9 food and nutritional needs
- Veterinary care and medical treatment
- Vet insurance and routine checkups
- Safety equipment and protective gear
- Training aids and operational equipment
- General upkeep to keep our K9s healthy, safe, and mission-ready

Every donation, no matter the size, directly contributes to the success and longevity of the Eaton Police Department K9 Unit.

If you would like to support the program, the Eaton Police Department K9 Unit has set up a GoFundMe to allow for easy and secure donations. All funds raised are deposited directly into the Town of Eaton K9 Fund and used exclusively to support the K9 program.

Thank you for supporting K9 Kurt, K9 Lyken, and the work they do for our community.

Please join us in congratulating Lieutenant Guffy on successfully completing the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Instructor Development Course! 👏

This achievement certifies him as a Primary Instructor and marks another important step in strengthening our department’s training program.

With three Primary Instructors now on our team, our training division continues to grow stronger. Sgt. Brooks, who serves as both a Primary and Fi****ms Instructor, and Jay Dotson, who serves as a Primary and Defensive Tactics Instructor, have already been doing an outstanding job. This gives our team another strong resource as we work to keep improving our training efforts.

We are also fortunate to have dedicated specialist instructors, including Sgt. Arens for Stop the Bleed and Deputy Marshal Kirby as an SFST Instructor, all contributing to a well-rounded and highly capable training program.

Their collective commitment, professionalism, and passion for instruction directly enhance our officers’ preparedness and our ability to better serve the community.

Congratulations, Lieutenant Guffy! Well deserved. 👏

🚔Recognizing the Legacy of EPD K9 Units 🐾

K9 Jerry Lee proudly served the Eaton Police Department for 8 years alongside his handler, Former Deputy Chief Chris Liggett. Imported from Belgium, Jerry Lee was a highly trained and certified dual-purpose K9 specializing in narcotics detection, tracking, article searches, and suspect apprehension.

Throughout his career, Jerry Lee built a reputation that extended far beyond Eaton Indiana. Drug offenders across Ohio knew his name. On multiple occasions, suspects admitted they had seen news articles about arrests involving Jerry Lee and were hesitant to operate in our area because of him.

Jerry Lee assisted numerous agencies during his service, including:

Muncie Police Department
Delaware County
Blackford County
Hartford City
Dunkirk Police Department
Gaston Police Department
Albany Police Department
U.S. Marshals Service
Indiana State Police & M**h Team

Some of Jerry Lee’s most notable accomplishments include:

Assisting the U.S. Marshals Service in the apprehension of a federally wanted fugitive who refused to surrender and was located hiding under a bed.
Tracking and locating a shooting suspect who fled from Gaston and was found hiding inside a plastic container in Yorktown.
Assisting in the capture of multiple suspects involved in a stolen vehicle case in Blackford County, located hiding in a wooded area.
Conducting a narcotics seizure during a traffic stop in Eaton involving crack co***ne, methamphetamine, he**in, fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia.

Beyond law enforcement, Jerry Lee gave back to the community. He assisted the local organization Grateful Rescue & Sanctuary in fundraising efforts for homeless pets and was featured on Pet Pals TV with host Patty Spitler on Wish-TV an experience that remains one of the most memorable moments of our career.

He also played a key role in community outreach, participating in school demonstrations and public events, helping build trust and connection between law enforcement and the community.

But above all, Jerry Lee was a amazing partner and loved his family at home.

Jerry Lee passed away in 2024 after a battle with cancer. He is deeply missed every single day.

Rest easy, Jerry Lee and thank you for your service.

Today, Eaton Police officers took part in training focused on traffic stop tactics, officer safety, and high-risk (felony) stop scenarios.

Even on their own time, our officers remain committed to improving their skills and staying prepared for the challenges they may face in the field. Continuous training like this helps ensure safer outcomes for everyone involved.

We’re proud of the initiative and dedication shown by our team as they continue working to better serve and protect the community.

The Eaton Police Department would like to congratulate Officer Oliver on graduating from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy!

Officer Oliver worked incredibly hard to reach this milestone, completing months of intensive training and bringing valuable knowledge and experience back to the department!

While Officer Oliver works as a full-time law enforcement officer with another agency, we are proud that he continues to serve the Eaton community as a Reserve Officer with the Eaton Police Department. His dedication to the profession and to our community does not go unnoticed.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Oliver on this outstanding achievement! 👏
