SC FORESTRY COMMISSION ISSUES STATEWIDE BURNING BAN — The South Carolina Forestry Commission is issuing a State Forester’s Burning Ban for all counties, effective immediately.

A State Forester’s Burning Ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including yard debris burning, prescribed burning, campfires, bonfires and other recreational fires in all unincorporated areas of the state.

Very low relative humidities statewide, coupled with drying fuels resulting from the lack of significant rain, have resulted in 102 wildfire ignitions today alone. Much-higher-than-forecasted winds have led to these fires spreading rapidly and growing larger.

While a majority of the current wildfire activity is concentrated in the P*e Dee region, the rest of the state is experiencing a dramatic uptick in wildfires today, straining the capacity of agency firefighters to respond.

The ban will stay in effect until further notice, which will come in the form of an official announcement from the Forestry Commission.

McEntire Fire family and friends. With the impending weather from hurricane Ian, we ask that everyone stay weather aware. Stay tuned to local sources of information such as www.scemd.org along with national sources such as the national weather service at www.weather.gov Once the storm approaches and passes, don't travel unless necessary. Don't drive through flooded areas or approach downed power lines. If you use power equipment such as generators or chain saws, please practice proper safety for each piece of equipment. Lastly, ensure that you have the supplies you need to weather the storm. Be safe!

McEntire Fire would like to congratulate fighter Taylor Watters (center) on his graduation from the South Carolina Fire Academy recruit school today. Firefighter Watters is the first firefighter McEntire has hired as a recruit as we have traditionally required firefighters to be certified firefighters prior to employment. Firefighter Watters completed eight weeks of rigorous training to reach this point and will continue with additional training next week as he begins the airport firefighter course. Pictured with firefighter Watters is Chief Mickey Jackson and Assistant Chief Scott Tatum.
