Cover Crop Sign-Up Opens June 22, 2026!

Talbot County farmers, mark your calendars — the 2026 Cover Crop sign-up period opens on Monday, June 22, 2026.

Cover crops are one of the most effective tools for protecting soil health, reducing erosion, improving water quality, and keeping valuable nutrients on the farm.

Be sure to contact the Talbot Soil Conservation District once sign-up opens for program details and assistance.

Talbot Soil Conservation District was proud to spend part of Earth Day 2026 helping pick up trash and do our part to keep Talbot County clean.

Conservation takes many forms, and while much of our work focuses on soil health, water quality, and supporting farmers and landowners, it also includes simple actions that make a real difference in our community. Picking up litter is one small way we can all help protect the natural resources that make Talbot County such a special place.

We are grateful for a staff that cares deeply about conservation in all forms and is always willing to roll up their sleeves for the good of our community.

Winter weather hasn’t stopped progress on this conservation drainage project. Despite snow and icy conditions, installation is continuing when conditions are safe, helping improve drainage and protect valuable farmland for years to come. We’re grateful for the hard work and commitment happening out in the field—even on the cold days.

Maryland Department of Agriculture is looking to hire a Soil Conservation Associate that would work out of the Talbot SCD field office! Please share!

The Maryland Department of Agriculture's Resource Conservation District Operations is seeking to fill three Soil Conservation Associate II positions in Harford, Carroll, and Talbot counties. These are permanent, Grade 12 positions that include full benefits. The application deadline is February 13, 2026.
