When this resident came to our shelter, he was facing a transition he never expected. After decades of marriage, his divorce left him without a home and unsure of what his next steps should be. He arrived carrying a mix of shock, grief, and the challenge of suddenly starting over later in life.

At Safe Harbor, he finally had a safe place to pause and process everything he had been through. As he settled in, one thing became clear right away—he loved to stay busy and contribute however he could. He quickly became a familiar face in our donation area, greeting donors with warmth and gratitude. He helped sort and organize donations, always ready to lend a hand and make sure things ran smoothly.

His willingness to pitch in wasn’t just helpful to staff; it gave him purpose during a time when he was rebuilding his confidence and routine. Through regular meetings with case management and steady participation in shelter activities, he began to regain his footing. He saved his retirement checks, explored housing options, and was finally able to move into his new place this week.

As always, thank you so much for making stories like this one possible ❤

When this resident came to our shelter, he was facing one of the hardest chapters of his life. After a painful loss and struggles with gambling, he found himself without a safe place to stay and unsure how to start over. He was 79 years old when he came to Safe Harbor.

At the shelter, he found what he needed most—a calm, supportive environment where he could regroup and focus on rebuilding. He took time to reflect, stayed away from old temptations, and began making steady progress toward stability.

He reconnected with positive influences and started planning for his next steps. Within a few weeks, he secured a safe place to live with a trusted friend and moved out. We are very grateful that when he needed help, we were able to be there. ❤

When this resident arrived at our shelter, she was facing street homelessness. Her housing plans had unexpectedly fallen apart, leaving her in an unsafe situation with nowhere stable to turn. She didn’t need long-term services—she simply needed a safe place to land, catch her breath, and figure out her next move.

During her short stay with us, she focused on rebuilding her stability. With a secure bed, supportive staff, and the space to think clearly, she quickly began exploring new housing options. Within just a few weeks, she was able to resolve her lack of housing and find a situation that allowed her better access to her young son, currently in the care of other family.

Sometimes, we are the very transitional stepping-stone that helps someone pivot from crisis to stability—and that’s just another way we are grateful to be able to serve ❤

Despite the terrible weather last weekend our residents and house management staff found a few hours of sunshine on Monday to celebrate Memorial Day together with a good old-fashioned cookout. We love seeing the house come together to enjoy holidays together ❤️ special thanks to our house management staff for making this possible and making sure our residents had a special day.

If you drop off donations in the coming weeks, check out our newly painted Peace Garden planters, courtesy of our hardworking residents. One of our ladies in particular wanted to make sure new residents feel welcome coming in, and this planter bed is one of the first things they see coming in the door ❤️
