Parking is a problem that is common to every successful city, and we can improve the situation for residents and visitors alike. Thanks to Mayor Sal Panto and other citizens for suggesting financial incentives and regulation changes that can encourage new habits. We need creative, open thinking. Continuing to promote a safe, clean, walkable city helps our future. Voting against smart development that would grow our tax base is not the answer.

A “major” parking problem in the downtown has some business owners frustrated and the city looking for answers.

Lehigh Valley Planning Commission Director Becky Bradley said, “You have to work the whole market. You can’t just work the affordable housing market because if you don’t have enough housing on the high end, then it creates compression in the middle and presses down.”

The City of Easton has taken a comprehensive approach that includes supporting market rate development for those who can afford it and an affordable housing plan for lower income families.

Experts say low-income renters have been growing in number since the 2008 housing bubble popped.

Cashiers checks for the same amount have been provided to St John’s Lutheran Church for distribution to the affected families. Thank you to all who contributed for your generosity and concern for our neighbors.
