Ever wonder what these are? 🤔👇
If you’ve spotted these sleek, cylindrical devices mounted on bridges, culverts, or docks near our waterways lately, you’re looking at a Hyfi Sensor!
These compact, high-tech devices are playing a vital role in keeping our community safe, resilient, and prepared. Here is a quick look at what they do and why they are a major benefit to our area:
💧 What do they do?
Hyfi sensors are solar-powered, wireless water-level monitors. They sit safely above the water and use ultrasonic sonar pulses to measure water levels down to the inch, 24/7. Because they are completely wireless, they transmit real-time water data rain or shine—even during severe storms!
🌟 Why having them is a game-changer:
Early Flood Alerts: They provide real-time data and send instant alerts if water levels rise rapidly. This gives city managers, first responders, and emergency crews up to an hour's head start to close roads, reroute traffic, and protect residents before flooding hits.
Safer Crew Operations: Instead of sending workers out into dangerous storms to manually check water levels, these sensors allow teams to monitor stream and lake conditions safely from their screens.
Better Infrastructure Planning: By gathering precise, long-term environmental data, the sensors help the Port Authority and local engineers design better stormwater systems and plan for future climate resilience.
Debris & Clog Detection: The smart technology can sense unexpected water patterns, helping us pinpoint logjams or blockages in real time so crews can clear them before they cause damage.
We are proud to leverage innovative technology to protect our local environment, our infrastructure, and—most importantly—you!
