This Saturday, September 5th, from 4-7PM during Art Walk, stop by .toms.icecream for the opening reception of "Alla Prima", a collection of paintings by Trace Meek !

"The title of the show - Alla Prima - means "at first attempt" in Italian. This refers to paintings that are executed from start to finish in a single session, often employing a “wet-on-wet” technique to blend colors serendipitously on the painting surface. Of course, I also deliberately mix colors on the palette before I apply them to the painting.

Historically, I have tended to take my sweet time making paintings, laying translucent layer upon translucent layer, letting each layer dry before proceeding to the next, occasionally pausing for months or years at a time before continuing. There’s nothing inherently wrong with this approach, but I had been wanting to get back into the painting game. Why? Because it’s fun. Up until this year, the alla prima approach had been fairly new to me. The verdict? I love it!"

Come greet the artist, see this beautiful collection in-person & grab a scoop of ice cream while you're at it!

Join us at Elusie Gallery THIS Saturday, September 5th, from 4-7 during Art Walk for the opening reception of "Under the Eaves", an exhibit by the Over the River Collective: Elisa Lanzi, B.Z. Reily, Annie Rogers, Margo Temple.

"In this exhibit, we conjure up a visual feast of collaborative and individual art, including artists’ books, original prints, collage, sculpture, handmade paper, paintings, and drawings. Delving into personal stories, we explore themes of identity, creativity, and destiny. Interconnected but fragmented ideas form a call and response from artist to artist about what’s gone before and what moves with us into the future.

A special feature of the exhibit is Tigh an Dáin – The House of the Poem, a 3D artists’ installation set in a vintage wooden house with hand-pulled prints, sculptural objects, and natural materials. A set of miniature artists’ books can be found in the attic under the eaves of the house.

Our exhibition developed as a recursive process of making art and poetry alone and together. Our ongoing collaborative jottings prompted us to create visual interpretations of the words. In a reversal of ekphrasis, a literary device that usually responds to art, we create visual works inspired by words."

We can't wait to see you there!

Join during Art Walk, Saturday, September 5th, from 4-7PM for the opening reception of "Flower Show" by Kate Spencer (front gallery) and "Captured in Felt" by Eileen Travis (back gallery).

"Flower Show" by Kate Spencer
"My studio is located at the edge of a wild meadow that leads down to the Sawmill River in Montague Center. I have spent the spring and summer studying and painting the wildflowers out my north window as they cycle through the season. In town are lovely gardens that I have visited and rendered on canvas, so I present flowers both native and introduced as well as garden specialties. I am thrilled to be working with pinks and purples along with my standard orange and green palette. Welcome to my Flower Show!"

"Captured in Felt" by Eileen Travis
"Captured in Felt is a series inspired by photographs the artist has taken of a wide variety of scenes she's encountered. Each piece is completed with wool roving that has been either needle felted or wet felted, and some are embellished with embroidery."

Come meet the artists and see their work, and be sure to catch this show before it closes on September 27th!
