The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a virtual public information meeting concerning the replacement of Bridge No. 04642 carrying Old Colony Road over Bungee Brook in Eastford on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.

The public information meeting is being held to provide the public and local community with the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is replacing speed limit signs on rural roads in many towns, including Eastford. New retroflective signs will be installed for improved safety and compliance.

Expect shoulder closures and alternating one-way traffic in work zones. Flaggers and/or police will direct traffic.

Transfer Station Permits for FY 2026-2027 will be available for purchase at the Transfer Station on Wednesdays and weekends in July with the following exceptions: July 18th from 12pm-4pm and NO SALES on July 4th (Transfer Station closed) or July 15th.

Please note: Only one permit per household will be issued at the Transfer Station. Additional permits must be obtained at the Eastford Town Office Building. Please allow a minimum of 24 hours before obtaining your second permit from the Town Office Building to ensure we received a copy of this documentation.

*Transfer Station permits are sold by Town employees at the transfer station as a convenience for residents. Please be patient and courteous when purchasing a sticker. Attendants reserve the right to refuse permit sales to individuals who are rude or disrespectful.

Permits may also be purchased from the Town Clerk's Office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10am-12pm and 1pm-4pm and on the second and fourth Tuesday each month from 10am-12pm and 1pm-6:30pm.

If you have any questions, please visit the Town Office Building during normal business hours.

Governor Ned Lamont announced that a long-duration heat wave is expected to impact Connecticut. He is ordering the state’s Extreme Hot Weather Protocol to be activated effective at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, and remaining in effect through at least 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for most of the area during this period, and Connecticut has the potential to reach the warning-level criteria. Peak temperatures are expected during the afternoon hours of Thursday, July 2, 2026, and Friday, July 3, 2026, when highs are expected to reach 100 degrees and heat indices could climb up to 110 degrees each day.

Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments (NVCOG), Capitol Region COG (CRCOG), Northeastern Connecticut COG (NECCOG), and Northwest Hills COG (NHCOG) have partnered together to develop a Transportation Resilience Improvement Plan (TRIP) for Inland Connecticut.

The goal of this effort is to help our region’s transportation system better withstand extreme weather events, particularly flooding.

"Governor Ned Lamont announced that due to a weather forecast indicating that Connecticut will experience a multi-day stretch of severely hot and humid conditions, he is directing the state’s Extreme Hot Weather Protocol to be activated effective at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2026, and continuing until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

During this period, temperatures are expected to exceed 90 degrees each day, meeting the National Weather Service (NWS) definition of a heat wave, with the heat index reaching or exceeding 100 degrees at times. Heat advisories have been issued by NWS for most of the state. Conditions are expected to be the most severe around the inland areas."

Eastford Commemorates the 250th Anniversary of American Independence

To mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of the United States, the Town of Eastford will host a public reading of the Declaration of Independence.

The Declaration was approved and signed in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776, and was first read publicly on that day. Printed copies were then distributed throughout the colonies, and on July 8, 1776, the Declaration was read in cities and towns across the thirteen colonies, announcing the emergence of a new nation.

The Town of Eastford invites residents and visitors to gather on the steps of the Ivy Glenn Memorial at 6:00 p.m. on July 8 for a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Following the reading, there will be a brief presentation by Phil Finch of the Eastford Historical Society on what life was like in Eastford in 1776. Please park in the Eastford Elementary School parking lot.

As part of this statewide commemoration, the Connecticut Society of the Sons of the American Revolution will provide a commemorative, frameable copy of the Declaration of Independence to each of Connecticut’s 169 towns.

Join us as we celebrate this historic milestone and reflect on the ideals and events that shaped our nation 250 years ago.

June is dog licensing month in Connecticut. The fees are $19 for an intact dog and $8 if the dog is spayed or neutered. If your dog had a rabies vaccine last year, please provide the updated expiration date. The 2026 licenses will be available in the Town Clerk’s Office beginning June 2, 2026 or they may be mailed if you prefer.

The Town Clerk's Office Hours are: Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4 pm. The Office remains open until 6:30 pm on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month as well.
