EHS students beat the heat today, celebrating their final advisory period of the year with ice cream, field games, and yearbook signings.

Last Friday, our district’s youngest learners showed off just how much they’ve learned this year at Waverly’s annual Alphabet Celebration!

Since September, our kindergarten students have been honing their reading skills, and the June Alphabet Runway and subsequent dance party have become longstanding Waverly traditions that honor the strides they have made throughout the school year.

Let’s hear it for our young readers!

Yesterday was a big day for Eastchester athletics, as the varsity softball and girls lacrosse teams both won their home playoff games.

The No. 3-seeded girls lacrosse squad bested No. 6 Somers 9-7 in the Class C quarterfinals, earning a trip to the semis behind a three-goal game from Sienna Giaquinto. The Eagles will take on No. 2 Pelham on Friday.

In softball action, the Eagles walked it off against a game Saunders team when Sophia Gutierrez hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Angela Recine in the bottom of the 7th to give Eastchester a 3-2 victory.

Eastchester will host No. 5 Ursuline on Thursday.

There’s a lot happening in Eastchester schools today!

The annual School Budget Vote & Trustee Election is underway in the EMS Main Gymnasium from 6 AM until 9 PM.

In addition, the EMS Art Show is opening today in the EMS small gym, and will be open to the public from 6 AM to 9 PM.

The 7th Grade National History Day Symposium will take place from 5 PM until 7 PM in the EMS Cafeteria, and there will be also be a special Election Day “Student Vote and Ice Cream Celebration” sponsored by the elementary school PTAs from 4 PM - 7 PM.

Yesterday afternoon, Eastchester’s Unified Basketball team took the court in front of a raucous crowd that turned out in droves for the team’s homecoming game.

The Eagles hosted Mamaroneck in an event that celebrated not only the strides the student-athletes have made this season but also the culture of inclusivity that is alive and well in Eastchester.

Hannah Sullivan, who serves as the co-coach of the Unified team along with Michele Fusca, said that it has been amazing to see the growth of the program and how the rest of the Eastchester community has embraced the athletes.

“Over the years we’ve gotten more participants, both athletes and partners, and it’s great to see,” said Sullivan. “Students want to join, people come out to support the event, and you can see that inclusivity and unity is really flowing throughout the school.”

“The students see it, they know it’s homecoming, and they get so excited for it each year,” added Fusca. ”It’s just awesome to see the atmosphere before, during and after the game.”

Way to go Eagles!
