Just a quick notice: the playground area at the main park will be closed for most of the day. A new load of mulch has been delivered, and the maintenance team is currently transporting it from the parking lot to the playground. We appreciate your patience while this work is completed and apologize for any inconvenience.

🚨🚨🚨Scam Alert 🚨 🚨🚨 Just a reminder to all residents. If you receive a text message stating you have a traffic or toll violation from the Kansas Turnpike Authority, this is a scam. Do not click the link!! If you do, please do not pay any money, do not give any personal information or vehicle information.

A legitimate toll violation in Kansas comes as a formal letter in the mail, NOT a text message, typically identifying the vehicle, toll location, amount due, and potential late fees.

Traffic Alert for this weekend.

TRAFFIC ALERT: From KDOT

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will close northbound and southbound I-135 at the 21st Street on- and off-ramps starting at 5 a.m. Saturday, March 28.

Other closures during this time include the westbound K-96 to northbound I-135 ramp as well as the northbound I-135 on-ramp at 29th Street.

All the closures are necessary to open the new ramp connecting westbound K-96 to northbound I-135. The existing K-96/I-135 ramp will be permanently closed after this weekend.

The new northbound I-135 ramp and the 29th Street ramp are scheduled to open by 6 a.m. Monday, March 30.

During the closure, westbound K-96 traffic will be directed to southbound I-135, then west on U.S. 54 and transition north on I-235 to return to the I-235/I-135 interchange.

The northbound I-135 on-ramp from 21st Street is already closed to help motorists adjust to new traffic patterns.o

Fyi - Skies are cloudy, but the radar is clear, so Sedgwick County WILL activate the sirens at 10:00 as part of the statewide tornado drill. The local weather service office will NOT activate NOAA Weather Radios. The sirens should sound for a full 5 minutes, just like they would in a real warning. We know from past experience this causes confusion even on a clear day, but it is important for us to test this manual activation, and our media partners have been helping us spread the word. I will also send an email and text message to everyone who has signed up for our Civic Ready alerts, so at least that’s 6,000 people who will know what’s going on. Still, 911 and your city hall will get calls, but it can’t be helped. Sorry for the extra work. - Chief

We are saddened by the news as we stand with our brothers and sisters at the Hays, Kansas Police Department.

While responding to a report of domestic violence call, a suspect fired at the responding officer. The suspect was pronounced dead on the scene, while the officer was taken to the hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries. We extend our sincere condolences to the Hays Police Department, as well as to the officer’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

Just before 11 p.m., police responded to a report of domestic violence in the 2200 block of Downing Street. Upon arrival, a suspect fired at the responding officer. The suspect
