Got time for a FAQ regarding the WA Cares Fund?

Many Washingtonians wonder if they haven't contributed long enough to qualify for benefits—and we want to make sure you have the information you need.

Q: I've only contributed to WA Cares for a year or two. Can I still access benefits?

A: It depends on when you were born. Most workers need to have contributed for at least three years to access the full $36,500 benefit. However, if you were born before January 1, 1968, you may still qualify for a pro-rated benefit based on the number of years you've contributed. Every year you worked 500 or more hours in Washington and contributed to the fund counts toward your total.

Summer in Central Washington brings more reasons to get out and about, whether that's a farmers market, a medical appointment, a senior center, or a shopping trip. For older adults who no longer drive or have limited transportation options, getting there can be a real challenge.

AACCW's Transportation Assistance program helps eligible older adults in Adams and Lincoln Counties get where they need to go, with personal assistance available for those with limited mobility.

7 in 10 Washingtonians will need long-term care at some point in their lives. For some, that need comes after an illness or injury. For others, it comes later in life. Either way, the cost of that care can be overwhelming. Most Washingtonians aren't prepared for it.

The WA Cares Fund changes that. By contributing a small amount from each paycheck while you're working, you earn access to long-term care benefits when you need them most. It's Washington's commitment to making sure everyone—not just those who can afford it—has support when the time comes.

Got time for a FAQ regarding the WA Cares Fund?

Many Washingtonians wonder if they're eligible to receive benefits—and we want to make sure you have the information you need.

Q: Who is eligible to receive WA Cares benefits?

A: To access your benefits, you need to meet two requirements. First, you must have contributed to the fund—most Washington workers who have contributed for at least three years have earned access to the full $36,500 benefit. If you were born before 1968, you may qualify for a pro-rated benefit even if you've contributed for less time. Second, you must have a care need—meaning you need help with at least three daily activities like bathing, eating, or managing medications, and expect to need that support for at least 90 days. Applications open statewide this month. Learn more at wacaresfund.wa.gov/apply
