Walpole Scholarship Foundation The Walpole Scholarship Foundation is dedicated to assist and encourage residents of Walpole to obtain post secondary education.

The Walpole Scholarship Foundation is dedicated to assist and encourage residents of Walpole to obtain post secondary cultural, vocational or professional education. Any student applying to or attending a school offering an advanced course of study, and residing in the Town of Walpole, may apply for one of our scholarships. The overall purpose of the Foundation is realized by the solicitation and

receipt of gifts from individuals, businesses and organizations. Donated funds are invested and the derived investment income is used in awarding scholarships to the residents of Walpole in recognition of scholastic excellence, merit or financial need.

Today we remember and celebrate the life and legacy of legendary Boston Red Sox coach and Walpole native Joe Morgan. Giving back to his hometown was such an important part of Joe’s legacy.

For 25 years, Coach Morgan supported the WSF by bringing together former players, family, and friends for the Joe Morgan Golf Tournament. Through the unwavering support of the Morgan family and the Walpole community, more than $500,000 has been raised for the Walpole Scholarship Foundation, helping countless students pursue their dreams. What a remarkable legacy of giving.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the Morgan family for carrying forward Joe’s spirit of generosity and service. His legacy lives on in every scholarship awarded, every student supported, and every person fortunate enough to have known him.

Joseph Erker was born March 1904 in Norwood, Massachusetts, but moved to Walpole while still an infant. He attended the Old Fisher School, the Plimpton School and one year of Walpole High School. When he finished his freshman year, he had to go to work at the age of 15 because his father was ill and there were four younger siblings.
Unhappy to give up his schooling, he took several correspondence courses. Finally with the encouragement of his best friend’s mother, he applied at Bentley College. He was accepted and graduated in 1926. Congratulations! to Jake Sardinha on receiving the 2026 Joseph Erker Award. Jake will be attend Bentley this fall, as well! Best of luck!

George Delaney and Mary Murphy Delaney were Walpole High School graduates in the class of 1929. They were both very good students and athletes. George was a talented member of the football and track teams and Mary was a skilled player on the field hockey team, starting a tradition of success that continues today. They married in 1934 and spent their entire lives in Walpole, where they were active in school and town affairs and were outstanding citizens of the community. Both were deprived of an opportunity to continue their education due to a lack of financial resources in their families and the extreme economic conditions that existed during those years.
They recognized the value of education...and would envision no greater tribute to their memory than an award to a deserving Walpole High graduate who is an enthusiastic athlete and student. This year's scholarship was awarded to Jackson Doherty. Congratulations and good luck at Mass Amherst!

George C. Rummell, was a Walpole Resident for forty-three years. Although he was denied by the Depression the opportunity to pursue an education in electrical engineering because it was necessary for him to support his mother, he retained a lifelong interest in learning. He had been an outstanding mathematics student in high school. The 2026 George C. Rummell Award goes to Anna Jolley who will be studying Mathematics at Villanova in the fall. Congratulations!
