New EMS Information Bulletins

Attached are two EMS Information Bulletins that have been issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Bureau of EMS over the course of the last two days. Please share as appropriate.

EMS IB 2020-28: Changes to BLS Psychomotor Examinations

Please be aware that although many psychomotor examinations are still suspended due to COVID-19 there are changes to the exam going forward.

The Long Spine Board Immobilization and Short Spine Board Immobilization stations have been removed from the exam and the Bleeding Control & Shock Management station has been moved from the random category to be one of the required skills.

EMS IB 2020-29: Additional Extension of CPR Expiration Dates

CPR certifications that expired on or after January 1, 2020 have now been considered by the Bureau of EMS to be current through June 30, 2021.

Please be aware that this extension is for your Pennsylvania EMS certification and not necessarily honored by other agencies or certification boards.

The Instructor Essentials Course is designed to prepare instructor candidates to teach AHA instructor-led and blended-learning course formats.
The course educates participants on how to adequately use instructor teaching materials, ensure that students meet learning objectives, offer student coaching skills, provide an objective skills performance evaluation. The course covers core content and discipline-specific content required to teach an American Heart Association courses.
