Rest easy Cap'n.

It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the line of duty death of Captain Art Ricks. Captain Ricks lost his battle with cancer in the early morning hours of March 30, 2017. Captain Ricks served the city fire department for almost 27 years with his most recent assignment at Rescue Squad 2 A shift. He was stationed in various neighborhoods and worked as an instructor to many recruits. He is survived by his wife of many years, two sons, and a grandchild.

Yesterday was a busy day for companies in the city. A major brush fire that used all 3 companies and then mutual aid companies were called . Later that evening 426 and 422 responded to a structure fire that turned out to be rubbish. Shortly after that 422,425 responded to a structure fire. Both companies went in service after a quick knock down. 422 responded to a small brush fire during the night. Shortly after returning to quarters 422,425 were dispatched to a structure fire. Companies arrived on scene to an apartment building with fire through the roof. Engine 422,425 and ladder 419 all operated at this fire.

Firefighters from at least seven area fire departments worked through Sunday afternoon in East St. Louis IL in southern Illinois near St. Louis MO to keep brush fires contained. No one was injured as of Sunday afternoon.
