Ericโ€™s career began long before his official hire date of February 1, 1996, when he first volunteered shortly after the City established its own fire department. Throughout his career, Battalion Chief Bowen led with integrity, compassion, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. He became more than just a firefighter and leader, he became a mentor, role model, trusted friend, and a steady source of encouragement to generations of firefighters who served alongside him.

His impact reaches far beyond emergency calls and station walls. Eric leaves behind a lasting legacy not only within the department, but also through his family.

Today, that legacy continues through his son, Firefighter W. Bowen, who joined East Ridge Fire Rescue Department nearly two years ago and now carries forward the same spirit of service and dedication his father exemplified for so many years.

While retirement marks the closing of one chapter, it also celebrates a lifetime of sacrifice, long nights, answered calls, missed holidays, friendships built, lives touched, and a community made stronger because of his service.

To Battalion Chief Eric Bowen, his wife Angel, Wilson, and the entire Bowen family, we say thank you!
