Did you know that the Robert E. Rock East Providence Senior Center has weekly SHIP (State Health Insurance Program) Counseling?

SHIP from East Bay Community Action Program provides free counseling services regarding Medicare for those who need it. Services are completely free for Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers. SHIP will provide you in depth, one-on-one insurance counseling and assistance with Medicare.

We partner with East Bay Community Action Program to provide this essential service here at the Senior Center. Whether you are aging into Medicare soon, have Medicare but looking for a better fitting plan, or would like to explore your options as a Medicare beneficiary, please give us a call and we can schedule you with our SHIP counselor to better understand the process. SHIP Counselors are here weekly at the Robert E. Rock Senior Center (610 Waterman Ave, East Providence RI 02914).

Last Wednesday, we took a field trip to the Rhodes on Pawtuxet to go to the Senior Prom! A gala event hosted by Navigant Credit Union. The event was a formal event which had a live band, great food, and even better company. We had a great time dancing the afternoon away!💃🕺🪩

As we continue to move forward on the East Providence Community Center we have scheduled paving of the parking lot, including the lot of the Robert E. Rock, East Providence Senior Center to begin August 10th.

This work will require the closing of the senior center for two weeks. Although the center will be closed, our team will still be providing senior center services, activities and lunch meals at the East Providence High School.

Thank you to the East Providence School Department for their assistance with ensuring we continue to provide the highest level of service during this closure.

Please see flyers below regarding paving of the Senior Center and new Community Center parking lot. Scheduled dates are August 10-21. The Senior Center building will be enduring a closure during this time period, but many of our services, meals, and activities will be moved over to the East Providence High School for the duration of the closure.

Extreme heat is expected in the coming days, please take precautions to stay safe and check out available hours for the city’s cooling centers.

High temperatures can be dangerous, especially for older adults, young children, and those with underlying health conditions.

Here are a few important heat safety tips:
☀️ Stay indoors during peak heat hours when possible (10AM-4PM)
💧 Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty
👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked car — not even for a minute
🐾 Make sure pets have access to shade and fresh water — do not leave pets in your car
🤝 Check in on neighbors, family members, and vulnerable loved ones

Know the signs of heat-related illness, including dizziness, nausea, confusion, or rapid heartbeat. If symptoms become severe, seek medical attention immediately.

Please stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay safe.
