This Saturday, September 12, Mayor Ted R. Green, the East Orange City Council and the Department of Policy, Planning and Development will proudly launch Women, Wealth & Wisdom—an Empowerment Brunch, kicking off a 12-month Financial Literacy and Business Development Series sponsored by Thrivent Financial Services.

📅 Saturday, September 12
⏰ 10AM–2PM
📍 East Orange Public Library

This inspiring event will bring together women at every stage of their professional journey—from aspiring entrepreneurs to established business owners—for a day centered on building stronger businesses, making smarter financial decisions and creating meaningful connections.

Featured speaker Dawn Fitch, Founder and CEO of Pooka Pure & Simple, will share how she turned handmade bath and body products created in her kitchen into an established beauty and wellness brand—and the lessons she learned while building a business with staying power.

Guest panelists include Yasmin Ouedraogo, Owner of Yasmin's Beauty Salon, Anna Banks, Founder and Managing Director of Thrive Leadership Institute, Inc., and Ugoeze Achilike, VP, Operations, Well-Care Nurses and Staffing. The discussion will be moderated by Ashley Nash, Esq. of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Upsilon Omega Delta Chapter.

“Women, Wealth & Wisdom is about making sure our women not only have a seat at the table, but are positioned to help shape the conversations, decisions and opportunities that impact their future. When women have a voice in the room and the resources to turn their vision into opportunity, families thrive, businesses grow, wealth is created and entire communities prosper,” Mayor Green.

Tickets are $35/person and proceeds will benefit Isaiah House, a local nonprofit committed to reducing homelessness throughout the greater Newark region. The fee for UEZ-certified businesses will be waived. To register and purchase tickets, please visit link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/women-wealth-and-wisdom-brunch-tickets-1997155669369.

Presented in collaboration with Thrivent Financial Services, the East Orange Chamber of Commerce, Pooka Pure & Simple, Yasmin’s Beauty Salon, Elegant Eyes, Thrive Leadership Institute, Inc., WellCare Nurses Homecare & Staffing, and Ultimate Financial Services.

Come ready to learn, connect, be inspired—and claim your seat at the table!

Boots on the ground. Service on every block.

Week 4 of Mayor Ted R. Green’s Senior Lawn Care Program brought the team to the 5th Ward, where several more senior homeowners received free lawn care with the help of Street Maintenance, Inc. and dedicated community volunteers.

This program is about showing up. Each weekend, Mayor Green and the team are out in our neighborhoods, cutting grass, helping our seniors maintain their properties and doing their part to keep East Orange looking good, one lawn and one block at a time.

And there’s room for more boots on the ground!

Residents interested in volunteering are encouraged to join us. We also welcome parents and guardians who want to get their young people involved in hands-on community service and teach the value of giving back to the city they call home.

Want to volunteer?
Contact the Mayor’s Office of Constituent Services at 973-266-5151.

Are you an East Orange senior homeowner who could use a helping hand with your lawn? The free program is available to East Orange homeowners ages 62 and older who reside at the property receiving service.

To sign up, call:
Mayor’s Office of Constituent Services: 973-266-5151
Street Maintenance: 973-524-3844

The boots are on the ground, and the work continues.
