Make sure you have your "After-Party" plan ready before the first toast:

🎉 Designate a Driver: Choose your DD before you head out.

🎉 Use a Rideshare: Keep those apps ready—a $20 ride is a lot cheaper than a DUI or an accident.

🎉 Look Out for Each Other: If a friend has had too many, grab their keys.

Today, on National Firefighters Memorial Day, we remember our own Battalion Chief John Ostergard. BC Ostergard passed away Dec. 16, 2018 after suffering a medical emergency while on scene at a structure fire. BC Ostergard served the East Olympia Community for 27 years and was heavily involved in recruit training. Our training facility at Station 64 is dedicated to his memory.

Is your home "Fire-Safe"? 🌲
Working from the house outward is the best way to create a buffer that gives our crews a fighting chance to defend your property.

Make sure you:

0–5 Feet: The "Immediate Zone." Non-combustible surfaces only.

5–30 Feet: The "Intermediate Zone." Keep lawns mowed, keep trees spaced apart, and prune branches up 6–10 feet from the ground (limb up!).

30–100 Feet: The "Extended Zone." Clear out dead brush and thin out small evergreens that act as "ladder fuels."

CALL IF YOU CAN — TEXT IF YOU CAN’T 🤳

Text to 911 is not a replacement to a voice call to 911 in an emergency situation, but rather as an enhancement to reach 911 services in specific situations such as:

- The caller is hearing/voice impaired.
- A medical emergency that renders the person incapable of speech.
- When speaking out loud would put the caller in danger, such as a home invasion, domestic violence situation or an active shooter scenario.
- Any other emergency that makes it impossible to speak out loud.

With a dry weekend ahead now is the best time to clean up those driveways for the Summer ☀️ Here are some tips to making your home accessible for Emergency Services:

-Clear trees, branches or brush from your driveway so it is at least 12 feet wide with a vertical clearance of at least 13.5 feet to allow fire trucks access.
-Ensure your driveway’s surface is firmly packed and can support the weight of emergency vehicles.
-Remove gates, fence posts or other obstructions that could restrict access.

You never know when you will need us and we want to be able to get to your Emergency as fast as we can. 🚒
