East Northport Fire Department The Official page of The East Northport Fire Department. Provideing Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services to our community. H.B. Mr. That is when R.S.

The history of East Northport Fire Dept. began on March 14, 1908, where a small group of men gathered at the Old Dixon Hotel for the purpose of organizing a fire department. In May 1908, an application for a charter was made and this was granted and recorded June 6, 1908. A lot was purchased on the corner of Ninth Avenue and Larkfield Rd. In the spring of 1909 ground was broken for the making of a

Firehouse. The labor was donated by members of the department. The first social event of the department was a Strawberry Festival. The proceeds of this event went to the building fund. On August 18th a dance was held celebrating the completion and opening of the firehouse. In May 1923, a petition was drawn up for the purpose of forming a Fire District. This was passed by the County Board of Riverhead on October 30, 1923. A public meeting of legal voters was called on July 30th for the purpose of electing three Fire Commissioners and a Treasure. Whitehead was elected for three years, Mr. Fred Corsa was elected for two years and Mr. Fred Knell was elected for one year. Herman Richter was Treasure for three years. Upon completion of forming the Fire District, members of the East Northport Fire Company NO. 1 turned over to the district all apparatus and equipment. Leighton became the Chief of the East Northport Fire Department. Through funds and contributions raised by the volunteers, an ambulance was purchased. The volunteers found themselves called upon for all kinds of emergencies. Our community was growing in leaps and bounds and with it came more and more demands and responsibilities for the local department to fulfill. Thus a small and dedicated group of men found themselves on virtually 24 hour call. Today, 100 years later, The East Northport Fire Department has grown itself in both members and apparatus. Along with Headquarters located on Larkfield Rd is our Sub Station located on Clay Pitts Rd. Both houses combined has 118 men and women serving our community in various ways. The Department responds to over 1800 ambulance calls a year and 550 fire calls. Our many men and women have trained countless number of hours to keep up with today’s technology.

β„οΈπŸš’ Help Us Keep Our Fire Hydrants Clear! πŸš’β„οΈ

With the recent snowfall, we are asking all residents to please take a few minutes to clear the snow from around any fire hydrants near your home or business.

In an emergency, every second counts. Fire hydrants buried in snow can delay our ability to quickly access water, which can impact fire suppression efforts and overall response time.

It’s important to remember that keeping hydrants clear is everyone’s responsibility β€” not just the homeowner or business directly in front of where the hydrant is located. If you see one that needs attention, please lend a hand.

When clearing a hydrant:
β€’ Clear at least a 3-foot area around the hydrant
β€’ Shovel a path from the street to the hydrant
β€’ Clear snow away from the caps and operating nut

🀝 Please check on your elderly or mobility-limited neighbors.
Many may not be physically able to clear heavy snow. Offering to shovel around a hydrant, walkway, or driveway could make a significant difference in their safety and ours. A few extra minutes of your time could help protect an entire block.

Your assistance helps us protect lives and property more effectively.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to keeping East Northport safe.

Stay safe and warm,
East Northport Fire Department πŸš’

πŸŽƒπŸ”₯ Happy Halloween from the East Northport Fire Department! πŸ”₯πŸŽƒ

The East Northport Fire Department wishes everyone a safe and spooky Halloween! As our streets fill with trick-or-treaters, we’d like to remind everyone to keep safety in mind:

πŸ‘» For Trick-or-Treaters:
β€’ Always walk on sidewalks and cross at corners.
β€’ Carry a flashlight or glow stick to stay visible.
β€’ Make sure costumes are flame-resistant and easy to see in the dark.
β€’ Never enter a stranger’s home or car.

πŸš— For Drivers:
β€’ Slow down and stay alert β€” kids may cross the street unexpectedly.
β€’ Avoid distractions and watch for pedestrians in dark costumes.

🏠 For Homeowners:
β€’ Keep pathways and driveways well-lit and free of tripping hazards.
β€’ Use battery-operated candles instead of open flames in decorations.

Have fun, stay safe, and enjoy the night!

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ September 11, 2001 – We Will Never Forget πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Today we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil. Among them were 343 firefighters and 71 law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Sadly, the toll continues to grow as rescue and recovery workers face long-term health effects from their service at Ground Zero.

The East Northport Fire Department has always vowed to β€œNever Forget”—the lives lost, the heroes who responded, and the families forever changed.

On September 2, 2025, East Northport Fire Dept. was activated for a signal 13 structure fire at 22:56 hours on Wells Road. Upon arrival Assistant Chief 2-10-32 found a hybrid electric vehicle smoking with exposure concerns for the structure. Engines 2-10-1, 2-10-4, 2-10-6, and Ladder 2-10-2 responded. Crews were able to move the vehicle away from the structure and extinguish the fire. TOH Fire Marshals, Suffolk County Fire Coordinators and Town of Islip Hazmat also responded. Crews were able to keep the vehicle at bay by cooling the off gassing electric battery, slowing thermal runaway and preventing damage to the property. Crews were operating on scene for approximately 4 hours.
