Norristown Farm Park Environmental Education Norristown Farm Park contains paved walking and biking trails, nature trails, a creek to fish. Learn fact about our species during our Wild Wednesday posts.

The Norristown Farm Park is 690-acres, which is Montgomery County's second largest park. 450-acres of the park is leased by a tenant farmer, while the rest of the property is maintained for recreational use. There are miles of paved hiking and biking trails, nature trails, a picnic pavilion, and more. Also the Stony Creek is available for fishing and other enjoyment. The Farm Park is home to many animals including songbirds, deer, fox, and more. Also attend our educational program to explore the property, learn about wildlife, and different environmental topics. Programs are held year round with topics varying based on seasons, check our events page for the current programs! Get outdoors and enjoy nature!

This Saturday, Sept 19th Peter Wentz Farmstead is hosting the Pawpaw Trek! Take a walk on their nature trail and learn all about North America's largest edible native fruit! Guided walks are being led at 12:30p, 1:30p, and 2:30p. Also they will be teaching about flax culture by the historic home!

If you were in the park Tuesday, Sept 8. You may have seen some larger drones flying over the farm fields. This was our tenant farmer, Beam Farms, planting cover crops. The drones were spreading Clover and Tillage Radish at a 28-foot radius with each pass. Why plant cover crops and why now? The reason the cover crop is being planted now, while the other crops are still planted, is because waiting later in the season will be too cool of weather for the plants to grow. These crops will also help replenish the nutrients in the soil, minimize soil compaction, and help prevent soil erosion.

The corn and soybean will be harvested in the late fall. This is because they need to be a certain percent dried to be stored. If you want to watch the harvesting come back in November to see the combines and other farm equipment at work!

Are you or anyone you know an educator that want to learn more about teaching outdoors? Join us October 3, from 9am to 2:30pm, to learn about Aquatic WILD. This is a workshop that teaches about this great curriculum guide that has activities to teach k-12 on topics like aquatic habitats, ecosystems, and much more! This workshop is great for any type of educator - classroom, non formal, scout leader, or homeschool parent. Once the workshop is completed you will get a guide to take home! Act 48 hours are available.
