Did you know that we are in the peak of turtle breeding season? Species like snapping turtles and box turtles are looking for mates and an area to lay their eggs. As they are in search of love, they are more likely to try to cross roads or encounter people. These beautiful creatures are not quick moving, so if you see them crossing a road, they may need a little help to safety.

Remember when moving turtles, please put them in the direction they were heading. If not, they will resume their journey and venture back into harms way. While moving turtles is important, please do not put your safety at risk.

If you notice an animal needs help within the park, please contact the Rangers at 610-270-0215 ext 3. If you encounter an issue at home, call Philadelphia Metro Wildlife Center before you try to take the animal to them. Place the animal in a dark box and do not provide it with food or water. For more information visit their website - https://www.phillywildlife.org/

Do you know the history of the Norristown Farm Park Education Wing?

In 1992, Montgomery County began leasing the property from DCNR. The parks current Site Supervisor, Ken Shellenberger moved through the ranks as the former Maintenance Foreman, who was involved in the development of the park from building pavilions, kiosks, mowing, and much more. Ken has combated many obstacles and created a beautiful environment within the park.

One of his major projects was taking the old dairy barn and turning it into a beautiful indoor space.

During the pandemic, this building was closed; Ken began transitioning into a fantastic education area for children and adults. Now, the building holds educational animals, a children's center with blocks, and a lecture space for adult programs.

A plaque has been placed on the building as a big thank you for your dedication!

"The Kenneth W. Shellenberger II Education Wing"

We are grateful for Ken and all of the work he has done at Norristown Farm Park.

Happy 33 years at the Farm Park and 36 years with the County of Montgomery!
