NX Bascule Bridge

NX Bascule Bridge The bridge and other Erie Lackawanna assets became a part of Conrail when it was created by Congress in the mid 70's.

An abandoned railroad bridge in East Newark, NJ, NX Bascule was part of the Newark Branch of Erie Railroad's New York Division, crossing the Passaic River into Newark. In late 1977, the bridge was abandoned and left in the open position to permit river traffic to pass. Portions of the 1982 movie Annie were filmed on and around the bridge.

The NX Bridge is railroad bridge that crosses the Passaic River between Newark and Kearny, New Jersey. It is the 13th bridge from the river's mouth at Newark Bay and is 6.5 miles (10.5 km) upstream from it.[2] The bridge has been abandoned in the raised position.[3]

As part of Newark's Passaic Riverfront Revival, the city offers boat tours of the lower Passaic River. Tours are about 7 miles and 3 1/2 hours round trip, and cost $5. NX Bascule Bridge is one of the structures the tour passes. For more information, visit http://newarksriver.wordpress.com/.

Some info on the bridge scene from the movie Annie

The abandoned railroad bridge that Annie and Rooster climbed still exists in East Newark, New Jersey. It is clearly visible from I-280 looking north as you are crossing the Stickel bridge.
