Across the country, volunteer fire departments are facing a growing challenge: fewer volunteers, increasing call volumes, and greater training requirements than ever before.

Communities like ours depend on dedicated men and women who are willing to answer the call—whether it’s a structure fire, medical emergency, motor vehicle crash, or community event.

East Montpelier Fire Department is always looking for individuals interested in serving their community. No experience is necessary. We provide training, equipment, and opportunities to serve in both fire and EMS roles.

If you’ve ever considered becoming a firefighter, EMT, or supporting your local emergency services, now is the time. The future of volunteer emergency services depends on community members stepping forward.

Tonight we provided EMS coverage for the U-32 Class of 2026 graduation ceremony.

As graduates, families, and friends gathered to celebrate this important milestone, our crew was on site throughout the evening to ensure immediate medical care was available if needed.

Fortunately, the focus of the night remained where it belonged—on the accomplishments of the graduating class. Congratulations to all of the graduates for their hard work, dedication, and success.

We are proud to support events that bring our community together and are honored to help keep them safe.

Congratulations, U-32 Class of 2026! 🎓🎉

Last night, FFs Garbacik and Opuszynski led a training on wildland firefighting operations. We reviewed key concepts and got out in the field practicing line construction, tool use, and coordination with our UTV.

Today at approximately 11:30 AM, East Montpelier Fire Department responded to Route 2 in the area of Route 14 South for a reported fluid spill.

Crews arrived to find a dump truck leaking hydraulic fluid, with an estimated 20 gallons spilled onto the roadway. The leak was quickly contained, and personnel worked to mitigate and remove the hazard from the road surface.

During this incident, our crews also responded to two medical emergencies, ensuring uninterrupted coverage while operations remained ongoing.

All units cleared the scene and returned to service shortly after 3:00 PM.

This is a great example of the dedication of our members—managing multiple incidents simultaneously while continuing to serve our community.

Last night, our EMS team spent the evening training on our new ZOLL cardiac monitor/defibrillators and sharpening our documentation practices.

Under the instruction of AEMT Conlon, members got experience with the new equipment and reviewed the importance of clear, accurate reporting—something that’s just as critical as the care itself.

Our team is always training and pushing to improve, so we’re ready when our community needs us most.

This evening, our crews responded to two simultaneous emergencies in our surrounding communities.

Rescue 4, Rescue 3, Utility 1, and the on-duty Chief Officer responded alongside Plainfield Fire & Fast Squad, Marshfield Fire Department, and Cabot Fire Department to the Village of Marshfield for a motorcycle versus car accident at the intersection of Cabot Road and Route 2.

Given the reported severity, a helicopter from the Dartmouth Hitchcock Advanced Response Team and a paramedic from Barre Town Ambulance were requested. Those resources were later returned, as the patient received advanced care on scene from the crew of Rescue 4. Prior to our arrival, the patient received care from an off-duty fireman from the Barre City Fire Department.

At the same time, Rescue 3 diverted with first responders from Plainfield Fast Squad to the Village of Plainfield for a cardiac emergency.

Both patients received advanced care from our crews and were safely transported to the hospital.

These calls involved 6 of our personnel—a strong mix of volunteer and paid members—working seamlessly with our mutual aid partners to ensure timely, high-quality care when it mattered most.

We’re proud of the teamwork displayed tonight across all agencies and would like to thank our mutual aid partners for their assistance.
