The EPIC Family of Human Service Agencies is comprised of EPIC Long Island, Epilepsy Foundation Long Island, & South Shore Guidance Center, offering a wide range of in-home community & site-based services while providing education, advocacy, & support. We are not only specialists in epilepsy, but also in the care and treatment of those with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges.

103 lifeguards, park attendants, and public safety officers for the Town of North Hempstead Parks and Recreation Department participated in Seizure Recognition and First Aid Certification Training on June 10th.

This important training helps ensure that our parks and facilities remain safe, supportive spaces for all members of the community. By strengthening their ability to recognize and respond to seizures, these dedicated team members are even better prepared to protect visitors and provide critical assistance when it matters most.

Proud of everyone who took part and continues to prioritize public safety, awareness, and preparedness. 💙💜

We held our quarterly EPIC in Action Self-Advocacy meetings this past week, bringing together participants from both our Day Hab programs and our residential programs across two sessions.

During the meetings, individuals discussed the importance of speaking up for themselves and advocating for their needs. The groups also reviewed EPIC’s Self-Advocacy Policy, including its three guiding principles.

We were then excited to welcome staff from the Spirit of Huntington Art Center for an inspiring presentation. Program Director Jane Pigiacelli shared the many creative opportunities available at the center, including a podcast studio. Following the presentation, Jane and art instructor Ingrid led a hands-on activity where participants created their own interpretations of Van Gogh’s Vase with Twelve Sunflowers.

It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to explore creativity and self-expression—our participants truly enjoyed expressing themselves through art!
